The current configurator treats the transaction as a vehicle order: you choose an available configuration, enter a delivery ZIP code and pay a $250 non-refundable Order Fee by card.
The $250 is only the amount charged when you place the order. It is not the down payment, and it does not cover taxes, registration, financing costs or the rest of the vehicle price.
How to preorder—or order—the Tesla Cybertruck
Tesla’s current process is completed online through the Cybertruck design page. Inventory, configurations, prices and delivery estimates can vary by location, so the figures below are an example of what the U.S. configurator currently displays rather than a guaranteed quote.
- Open Tesla’s Cybertruck configurator. Go to Tesla’s Cybertruck page and select Order Now, or open the Design Your Cybertruck page directly.
- Choose a configuration. The current U.S. configurator lists a Cybertruck Premium All-Wheel Drive configuration at $79,990 before destination, taxes and other applicable charges.
- Enter the delivery ZIP code. Select Enter Delivery ZIP and provide the ZIP code where you expect to take delivery. Tesla uses this information for delivery details and estimated timing.
- Review included and optional equipment. The displayed configuration includes items such as 20-inch Core Wheels, the Tow Package and Tactical Grey Décor. The configurator also shows optional equipment, including:
- Full Self-Driving (Supervised): $99 per month, with a one-month trial shown on the page.
- Terrestrial Armor Package: $3,000.
Remove options you do not want before moving to the payment screen. A subscription or package can materially change your monthly or upfront cost.
- Check the price summary. The current Premium All-Wheel Drive example shows the following:

- Select Order with Card. Pay the $250 Order Fee using a credit card. Tesla describes this as a one-time, non-refundable fee when the order is placed.
- Sign in to the Tesla app. Download the app and use the same Tesla Account email address and password used for the order. Open the pending pre-delivery tasks and provide the requested registration and delivery-location information.
What the $250 order fee does—and does not—cover
The $250 charge secures the order process; it is not the full amount required to buy the truck. You will still need to account for the unpaid vehicle balance, destination charges, sales tax, registration, title and any other applicable fees. If you finance, your lender may also require a down payment, and interest will increase the total cost over the loan term.

For example, the displayed $82,235 estimate is before taxes and other applicable fees. Paying $250 today does not mean you have made a substantial down payment against that balance. Review the final purchase agreement and payment instructions before arranging financing or moving money.
What happens after you place the order
The Tesla app becomes the main place to track the order. It shows the latest estimated delivery timing, but Tesla warns that estimates can change with production, logistics, your location and vehicle availability. Treat an estimate as a planning guide, not a guaranteed delivery date.
When Tesla assigns an available vehicle, it sends an app notification to schedule delivery. Depending on your location and eligibility, you may pick up the Cybertruck at a Tesla location or receive it through a delivery arrangement.

- Provide proof of insurance or other insurance information.
- Choose a payment method or complete financing documentation.
- Submit trade-in information, if applicable.
- Finish registration and delivery-location details.
Complete these tasks promptly. Missing information can delay delivery even after a vehicle has been assigned.
How to finance the Cybertruck
After ordering, eligible buyers can apply for financing through the Tesla app. Approval depends on credit and financing is not available in every state. Compare Tesla’s offer with an outside bank or credit union rather than assuming the lowest monthly payment is the cheapest option.
When comparing loans, look at the annual percentage rate, loan term, total interest and required down payment. A longer term can reduce the monthly bill while increasing the total amount paid. Also budget for insurance, charging, maintenance and registration—not just the loan payment.
How to pay the remaining balance
Tesla’s ordering instructions say the final payment can be made through the app by electronic check, by wire transfer or with a certified check at delivery. A certified check must include the reservation number and the customer’s name in the memo line. Tesla says the final payment must come from a single account.

Do not wait until delivery day to discover that your bank has transfer limits or processing delays. Confirm your bank’s procedures in advance and follow the payment instructions shown in your Tesla account.
How to add a trade-in
A trade-in is handled after the order is placed:
- Open the Tesla app.
- Open the pre-delivery tasks.
- Go to Trade-In.
- Tap Yes and enter the requested vehicle information.
The trade-in process does not eliminate the need to plan for the Cybertruck’s purchase balance. Wait for Tesla’s valuation and review how the trade-in credit affects the final purchase documents.
Can you cancel the Cybertruck order?
Tesla’s general ordering page says the Order Fee is non-refundable. However, Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ uses different language, saying a Cybertruck reservation can be canceled before delivery and the pre-order payment refunded. Because those statements do not match cleanly—and the current checkout labels the $250 as a Non-refundable Order Fee—do not assume you will get the money back.
Review the order agreement and payment terms displayed at checkout. If you still want to request cancellation through the app, Tesla’s general path is:

Vehicle Details > Manage > Request to cancel > select a reason > Submit Cancellation > Yes, Cancel.
Cancellation is different from transferring the order. Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ says Cybertruck reservations or orders cannot be transferred to another person.

Can I finance a Cybertruck after ordering it?
