HelloFresh said a supplier withdrawal could affect mixed salad and baby spinach in some Western Australia deliveries received from September 5–8, 2024. The company told customers who received recipes containing those greens to discard them. The warning was limited to those ingredients and that delivery window; the report did not establish that any customer’s food tested positive for Listeria.
What the HelloFresh warning covered
PerthNow reported on September 12, 2024, that HelloFresh had contacted WA customers after its third-party supplier advised the company on September 9 of a withdrawal involving mixed salad and baby spinach from a batch potentially contaminated with Listeria. HelloFresh said the batch was localised to the WA market.
The company said it had informed customers who received recipes containing either ingredient in deliveries from September 5 through September 8, 2024, and asked them to dispose of the affected ingredient. It said these were the only ingredients in deliveries that may have been affected and that all other ingredients were safe to consume.
The alert described a potential contamination risk; it did not confirm that Listeria was detected in a customer’s package. PerthNow’s report did not name the supplier or provide lot codes, quantities distributed, confirmed illnesses, or a case count. It was a news report about a company communication, not itself a regulatory recall notice. Whether an official notice was issued for this specific 2024 event is not established by the available reporting.

What customers were asked to do
- If you received a WA delivery in the September 5–8, 2024 window and it included mixed salad or baby spinach, follow the notice and discard that ingredient. Do not rely on appearance, smell, or refrigeration to establish that it is safe.
- HelloFresh’s reported message said: “Please discard the product. If you have already consumed this recipe and are concerned, please contact us or seek medical advice.”
- If you had a delivery outside that date range, in another region, or without either named ingredient, this report does not identify it as part of the affected batch.
HelloFresh said it would provide a $5 credit per bag of baby spinach or mixed salad. PerthNow did not report how customers could redeem the credit or whether it remains available, so customers would need to contact HelloFresh about any account-specific credit.
If you already ate the greens
Eating the ingredient does not mean you were infected. The report did not establish confirmed contamination in consumer packages or illnesses linked to this batch. If you are concerned, contact a healthcare professional; people at increased risk who develop symptoms consistent with listeriosis should seek medical advice promptly.

Symptoms and timing
HealthyWA lists possible symptoms including fever and chills, headache, stiff neck, confusion or drowsiness, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhoea. Symptoms commonly begin around three weeks after eating contaminated food, but the interval can vary. HealthyWA’s listeriosis guidance lists an incubation period of up to 70 days, usually two to three weeks.
Who is at higher risk
HealthyWA identifies pregnant people and their unborn or newborn babies, people with weakened immune systems due to chronic illness, and people taking medicines that impair immunity as groups at increased risk. Because symptoms may not appear immediately, the absence of symptoms soon after eating is not proof that infection did not occur.

Food safety and checking current notices
For general food safety, HealthyWA advises washing hands and food-preparation equipment, separating raw foods from cooked and ready-to-eat foods, cooking food thoroughly, and keeping a refrigerator below 5°C. Listeria can survive and grow at low temperatures, so refrigeration is not a substitute for following a discard notice.
