That figure comes from a secondary reference, and the sources available do not confirm add-on terms. They also do not support a complete, ranked top ten or a current status for every big-money arrival. This article sets out what can be confirmed, explains why a full ranking is not yet verifiable, and shows how to build one properly.
The highest fee Hearts have paid
The available reporting places Ageu’s £1.7m at the top of Hearts’ recorded spending. Read that figure with three qualifications:
- It is nominal. It is the sum agreed in 2025, not adjusted for inflation or restated in today’s money.
- It is a reported fee. The Wikipedia entry is a secondary source, not a club statement, so the figure should be checked against the club’s announcement from the time before it is quoted as fact.
- It may not be the whole deal. Sell-on clauses, appearance bonuses and other add-ons are not reflected in the £1.7m, and the sources reviewed do not say whether any apply.
The sources reviewed do not establish what Ageu is doing now, so this article makes no current-status claim about him.
Lawrence Shankland: from Hearts to Rangers
The one recent move that is confirmed from primary sources is Lawrence Shankland’s departure. On 26 May 2026, Heart of Midlothian F.C. announced in a club statement titled “Shankland to leave Hearts” that he was leaving to join Rangers. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) confirmed the move the same day in its release “Lawrence Shankland joins Rangers”.

- Contract: a two-year deal with an option for a third season, as stated by the SPFL.
- Goal record: the SPFL says Shankland scored 175 goals across all four divisions since the SPFL merger in 2013, which it describes as the all-time top scoring record of the SPFL era. That is the league’s own claim, measured from its merger onward, not a record across the whole history of Scottish football.
The sources reviewed do not give the fee Hearts paid for Shankland or the year he arrived, so his place in any fee ranking cannot be confirmed.
Why a complete top ten cannot yet be confirmed
Transfermarkt maintains a record-arrivals page for Hearts, but the version reviewed did not display a usable ranking. Without a single, documented method, a top-ten list can quietly mix confirmed fees with estimates, loan deals and undisclosed amounts. The table below shows the measures a reliable list needs and where the current evidence stops.

How to build a verified top ten
Anyone compiling this list can do it with public sources. Follow these steps in order:
- Open the Hearts record-arrivals page on Transfermarkt and copy each entry’s name, fee and date. Before relying on the ranking, check which deals it counts and whether loans are excluded.
- For each entry, find the club’s own announcement or a news report written at the time of signing, and confirm the fee against it.
- Label every fee as confirmed, reported by a named outlet, or undisclosed. Do not rank undisclosed fees alongside confirmed ones without a note.
- Record add-ons separately. If they are not stated, write “not stated” rather than leaving the cell blank.
- Keep nominal fees in one column. Put any inflation-adjusted figure in a separate column marked as an estimate.
- Check each player’s current club on the club’s or league’s website and note the date you checked, because moves like Shankland’s can change a listing within weeks.
Until a source that shows every name, fee and method is available, Ageu’s £1.7m is the highest fee reported for Hearts, and Shankland’s 2026 move to Rangers is the only recent departure confirmed by both the club and the league.
