Her later account of what she knew, what she was paid, and her contact with federal agencies comes from podcast coverage; the sources reviewed do not include official SEC or FBI confirmation that she was cleared. Investors’ claims against the project are allegations, not court findings.
What happened to the $HAWK token?
The token launched on December 4, 2024, in association with Welch and web3 launchpad OverHere Limited. A law firm representing investors reports that $HAWK went from a $16.69 million presale valuation to a reported market capitalization of $491 million shortly after launch, before falling by more than 90% within hours. These are reported market-cap figures, not verified measures of individual investors’ realized losses or evidence of wrongdoing. Market capitalization is a snapshot based on token price and supply, not a pool of cash that investors can necessarily withdraw. A steep fall in that figure indicates a severe price decline, but does not by itself establish who caused it or how much any particular buyer lost.
Why did Welch say she was horrified?
A May 2025 report by The Block, covering Welch’s appearance on a podcast, says she described being drawn into the project despite lacking crypto knowledge and trusting the wrong people. The Block quoted her saying, “I did not have enough knowledge about crypto to be getting involved with it and I knew that, but I got talked into it.” It also quoted her: “I trusted the wrong people that screwed me.” These are Welch’s account of her involvement, not findings about the conduct or responsibility of other people.

The title-specific May 6, 2025 report characterized her as horrified by what happened. Its page was not available to review, so the headline is the basis for that description; no additional exact quotation from that report is established here.
What did Welch say about her role and federal agencies?
In the podcast account reported by The Block, Welch said the FBI questioned her after agents visited her grandmother’s home and that she provided her phone to the SEC. She said both agencies cleared her. The same report says she claimed she received a marketing fee and did not profit from the token itself.

Those details are attributed statements. The sources reviewed do not include an SEC or FBI notice confirming an investigation’s outcome, a formal clearance, or the terms of Welch’s compensation. They therefore should not be treated as independently verified agency conclusions.
In a public statement reported in December 2024, Welch said she was cooperating with the legal team representing affected people and wanted to help uncover the truth, hold responsible parties accountable, and resolve the matter. That statement predates her later podcast account. The Block’s contemporaneous coverage reported her response.

What is the status of the investor lawsuit?
Investors filed an initial complaint on December 19, 2024, alleging that $HAWK was offered as an unregistered security. Contemporary coverage reported that the initial complaint named project-related defendants, did not name Welch, and claimed more than $151,000 in investor losses. That sum was the plaintiffs’ claimed loss total, not a court-verified damages award. The Block’s December 2024 report covered the filing.
The litigation description later changed. Wolf Popper’s case page records the appointment of a lead plaintiff and co-lead counsel on April 23, 2025. A March 30, 2026 update from Burwick Law describes an amended complaint in a pending class action naming Welch and others. The claims that the token was an unregistered security or that buyers were misled remain plaintiffs’ allegations in the sources cited here; no finding of liability is established by those updates.
