Haliey Welch later said she did not know enough about crypto to get involved with HAWK, the Solana meme coin promoted under her “Hawk Tuah” persona. That is her retrospective account—not independent proof of what she understood when the token launched on December 4, 2024.
What did Haliey Welch say she knew about crypto?
In a podcast account reported by The Block on May 21, 2025, Welch said: “I did not have enough knowledge about crypto to be getting involved with it and I knew that, but I got talked into it.” Her statement is a description of her own knowledge and how she entered the project. It does not independently establish what she knew privately at launch.
There is a contrast with Welch’s earlier public messaging. CoinDesk reported that before launch she said she was excited to participate in meme culture and had “learned so much” while working with launch partners. Those public comments and her later account differ in tone, but neither by itself proves her actual level of crypto understanding.
What happened when HAWK launched?
HAWK launched on the Solana blockchain on December 4, 2024. The investor complaint in Albouni v. Schultz, filed December 19, 2024, says the launch occurred at 22:00 UTC. The complaint alleges that HAWK’s market value reached $491 million within hours before extreme volatility. That figure is an allegation in the complaint, not a settled valuation.

Other reported figures differ. The Block said HAWK’s market capitalization rose to about $400 million before falling by more than 90%. CoinDesk reported estimates of a $491 million peak followed by a rapid decline. These are historical estimates reported in May 2025, not current values; market-cap figures can vary with the source and measurement time.
The complaint also cites a November 5, 2024 promotional post by Welch reading “Tuah to the Moon.” Its inclusion in the complaint records an allegation about promotion; it is not, on its own, a finding of wrongdoing.

Did investors sue over the HAWK token?
Yes. The initial investor action described by The Block was filed on December 19, 2024. Twelve investors said they collectively lost around $151,000 and alleged that HAWK was an unregistered security. The Block reported that Welch was not named in that initial action.
A later case page published by Burwick Law on March 30, 2026 describes an amended class-action complaint pending in the Eastern District of New York, case number 1:24-cv-08650-AMD-JRC, and lists Welch among the defendants. The page summarizes the plaintiffs’ allegations; it is not a court ruling, and the allegations should not be treated as established findings.

There is no single loss total established by the figures in these reports. They come from different speakers and may describe different things:

Did the FBI or SEC clear Welch?
The Block reported Welch’s account that the FBI questioned her and the SEC reviewed her phone, after which she said both agencies cleared her. The material available here does not include an FBI or SEC statement confirming that account. A Better Markets comment letter dated June 11, 2025, and hosted by the SEC refers to a closed investigation, but it is a submission by an outside organization—not an SEC announcement or agency finding about Welch.
Accordingly, the clearance claim is attributable to Welch’s account as reported by The Block; it should not be stated as independently confirmed by either agency.
