Hawaiian Airlines’ Tropical Storm Hone waiver was a temporary policy for eligible trips to or from Hilo (ITO) or Kona (KOA) on Aug. 24–25, 2024. It allowed qualifying passengers to rebook without a change fee, and in limited cases without paying a fare difference. The waiver has expired; it is not an option for travel booked now.
Who was covered by the waiver?
Hawaiian Airlines announced the waiver on Aug. 23, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. HST. Its notice applied to guests traveling to or from Hilo (ITO) or Kona (KOA) on Aug. 24 or Aug. 25, 2024, because of Tropical Storm Hone. The notice did not extend eligibility to other destinations or travel dates. Read Hawaiian Airlines’ notice.
What happened if a passenger rebooked?
Eligible travelers could reschedule without a change fee. The airline also waived an applicable fare difference only if the replacement flight kept the same city pair and cabin of service and travel took place by Aug. 29, 2024. The replacement ticket had to remain in the same compartment: Main Cabin or First/Business Cabin. If those conditions were not met, the notice did not waive the fare difference.
What happened if a passenger canceled?
Passengers could cancel and retain the unused ticket value until the ticket expired. A change fee was not charged when rebooking, but a fare difference could apply to the replacement flight. Hawaiian Airlines said tickets expired one year from the original purchase date.
