There is not enough evidence to confirm that Norse Atlantic permanently discontinued 12 distinct US routes in three years. The documented changes include route withdrawals, seasonal suspensions and frequency adjustments—different things that should not be added together as a single count. The latest schedule report reviewed, dated September 22, 2026, said planned London Gatwick–New York JFK and Rome–New York JFK flights were removed for winter 2026–27, leaving Gatwick–Orlando as Norse’s only scheduled transatlantic route for that season. Schedules can change after that report.
What does “12 routes cut” mean?
A route is usually counted as an airport pair, such as London Gatwick–Boston. But a route can disappear from one season’s schedule and return later, continue with fewer flights, or be announced and never begin. Those cases are not equivalent to a permanent discontinuation.
The available records establish several kinds of Norse Atlantic network changes, but do not provide an exhaustive, verified list of 12 permanently discontinued US airport pairs. Without a list that defines what counts as a cut, the headline figure should be treated as unconfirmed.
- Permanent discontinuation: the airline ends service on an airport pair, with no later restart established.
- Seasonal suspension: service is absent for a season, but may return in a later schedule.
- Frequency reduction: fewer flights operate on a route that remains in the network.
- Planned or announced change: a schedule filing or company statement signals an intended change, not necessarily flights already operated or available to book.
What Norse’s documented changes show
2023: London–Oslo discontinued
In April 2023, Norse said its UK air operator certificate launch led it to discontinue London–Oslo, citing low overall demand and poor load-factor performance. The company also listed its planned winter 2023 network, including New York–London and New York–Paris, and London services to Orlando, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale/Miami, Washington, DC, and Boston. 2024: two Gatwick routes removed, plus frequency changes
A January 2024 schedule filing reported that London Gatwick–Boston and London Gatwick–Washington Dulles were removed for travel on or after March 31, 2024. The same report noted frequency adjustments on Gatwick–Los Angeles, Miami, JFK and Orlando. A reduction in frequency is not a route termination when service continues. 2025: a smaller net network despite new services
CAPA described Norse’s mainline network in summer 2025 as eight routes, one fewer than the previous summer. That net change is not a tally of routes cut: the report also described new Rome and Athens services, alongside planned Oslo–Bangkok and Oslo–Miami discontinuations from late April 2025. Oslo–Los Angeles had been suspended, resumed and ceased again in 2024. Winter 2026–27: two planned JFK withdrawals
Aviation Week reported on September 22, 2026, citing OAG schedule data, that planned London Gatwick–JFK and Rome–JFK flights would end in late October for the winter schedule. The report said Gatwick–Orlando would then be Norse’s only scheduled transatlantic route for that season. This is a report about filed schedules, which can change; it should not be read as proof that every planned flight operated or that no route could return later. Why the airline’s business model matters
Norse’s network decisions sit alongside a shift toward ACMI flying—providing aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance to another airline—rather than relying only on its own scheduled routes. In February 2026, Norse said half of its Boeing 787 fleet was secured on long-term commercial contracts, with the rest operating on a selected network focused on routes it considered to have strong consumer demand. In July 2026, Norse announced that its IndiGo ACMI cooperation was planned to end effective November 1, 2026. The company said industry and geopolitical challenges had affected the commercial viability of long-haul India–Europe operations, citing elevated fuel prices, airspace disruptions and longer routings. It said returned aircraft might be used in other ACMI arrangements or on selected routes, including Europe–Orlando and Europe–New York. How to judge a route-cut count
A meaningful three-year count needs a consistent definition and a route-by-route record. Before treating “12” as a factual total, check whether the list:
- counts airport pairs rather than individual flights or frequencies;
- separates permanent endings from seasonal pauses and routes that later restarted;
- excludes frequency reductions when the airport pair remained served;
- distinguishes announced plans from routes that actually operated;
- uses a consistent scope for Norse Atlantic and Norse Atlantic UK; and
- specifies its start and end dates and whether scheduled, charter and ACMI flying are included.
These distinctions explain why a net route count can fall by one even when several routes end: new routes can offset some withdrawals, and seasonal schedules can differ without representing permanent network exits.
