The reported 40% return cannot be verified from Hanil Cement’s company disclosures and the cited market-data pages alone. Without a start date, end date, reference prices, currency and a statement on whether dividends were included, it is impossible to know whether the number describes a share-price gain or total shareholder return.
What the 40% figure would have to show
A price return is calculated from the change in the share price: (ending price − starting price) ÷ starting price. A total shareholder return (TSR) adds cash dividends, and may also assume that those dividends were reinvested. The result can differ substantially depending on the measurement period and the treatment of dividends.

For Hanil Cement, a properly documented calculation would identify:
- the exact trading date used for the starting price;
- the exact trading date used for the ending price;
- whether prices were adjusted for corporate actions;
- the currency and exchange used; and
- whether dividends were received in cash or reinvested.
None of the cited Hanil Cement or market-data pages identifies those inputs for a 40% calculation. It should therefore be treated as an unverified claim, not as an established performance statistic.

Hanil Cement’s business and reported scale
Hanil Cement says it was established in 1961. It reports 8.1 million tons of annual production capacity and 25 factories and distribution bases. Its products include ordinary and special cement, dry mortar, ready-mixed concrete and high-solidity admixture. The company lists 980 employees and sales of KRW 1,424 billion at the end of 2025.
The company’s official investment page presents consolidated K-IFRS figures for its 56th period. Revenue was KRW 1,574,266,495 thousand, compared with KRW 1,441,199,875 thousand in the 55th period. Earnings per share (EPS) was KRW 8,238, down from KRW 11,653. The sales figure in the corporate profile and the consolidated revenue figure come from different disclosures and should not be treated as interchangeable measures.

Dividend income changes the return calculation
StockAnalysis lists an annual dividend of KRW 1,000 per share, paid annually, with a December 29, 2025 ex-dividend date. Its displayed yield was 6.11% at the page update cited. Because yield moves with the share price, that percentage is date-sensitive rather than a permanent rate.
Rank #2
StockAnalysis’ historical ratio table reports a FY2025 dividend yield of 5.56%, compared with 7.26% in FY2024, 7.03% in FY2023 and 5.95% in FY2022. The same table reports FY2025 total shareholder return of 4.57%. Those figures are sourced to S&P Global Market Intelligence and depend on the relevant measurement dates and prices.
| Year | Annual dividend per share | Dividend-yield data |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | KRW 1,000 | FY2025 yield 5.56%; a separate page update displayed 6.11% |
| 2024 | KRW 1,000 | FY2024 yield 7.26% |
| 2023 | KRW 800 | FY2023 yield 7.03% |
| 2022 | KRW 580 | FY2022 yield 5.95% |
| 2021 | KRW 540 | Yield not stated in the cited table |
MarketScreener also lists annual dividends of KRW 1,000 in 2025 and 2024, KRW 800 in 2023, KRW 580 in 2022 and KRW 540 in 2021. It defines total return as including dividends reinvested. That definition illustrates why a dividend-inclusive result cannot be compared with a price-only chart without labeling the difference.
Construction demand is the central operating risk
Cement demand follows building and infrastructure activity. A slowdown can reduce shipment volumes, weaken pricing power and leave fixed production assets underutilized. Hanil Cement’s mix of cement, ready-mixed concrete and related materials gives it several revenue categories, but all remain exposed to the broader construction cycle.
Rank #3
- MULTIPURPOSE: Basic building material for crafts, pavement, sidewalks, reinforced concrete buildings, masonry units, and more
- MIX AND USE: Use to create concrete, mortar, and stucco mixes
- GREAT FOR DIY PROJECTS: Ideal for small crafts with forms and silicone molds
- HIGH STRENGTH: Solid once dry, dry in 48 hours
- LESS IS MORE: One bag yields approximately .5 cu. ft.
At the March 26, 2026 annual general meeting, chief executive Jeon Keun-sik said: “While we anticipate a challenging business environment this year due to the sluggish construction industry and heightened external uncertainties, such as conflicts in the Middle East, we remain committed to maximizing corporate and shareholder value.” The statement is management’s outlook, not a forecast of a particular share price or dividend.
The supplied disclosures do not establish current leverage, free cash flow, payout ratio or a quantified volume outlook. Those measures are essential for judging whether the KRW 1,000 dividend is sustainable through a prolonged downturn and should be checked in the latest financial statements before relying on yield alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.How to verify the claimed performance yourself
- Locate the original article or announcement that uses the 40% figure and record its publication date.
- Write down the stated start and end dates. If either date is missing, the calculation is incomplete.
- Obtain Hanil Cement’s unadjusted and adjusted closing prices for both dates from the same exchange-data source.
- Calculate the price return using the two closing prices and retain the currency used.
- Add dividends paid between the dates. For a TSR calculation, determine whether each dividend is assumed to be reinvested on the ex-dividend date.
- Compare the result with a clearly labeled benchmark and state whether taxes, fees and foreign-exchange effects are excluded.
If the original source cannot provide these inputs, the 40% number should not be used to make a purchase or valuation decision.
What to compare before buying Hanil Cement stock
| Comparison question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Price return or dividend-inclusive TSR? | Prevents a share-price gain from being presented as the same outcome as a reinvested-dividend return. |
| What is the dividend yield and payout sustainability? | A high yield can reflect a falling share price; earnings, cash flow and payout ratios indicate whether distributions can continue. |
| How are cement volumes and prices changing? | Construction activity and pricing determine revenue quality during the cycle. |
| What are leverage, cash flow and earnings trends? | Debt service and cash generation affect resilience when demand weakens. |
| What valuation date and data source are being used? | Market prices, yields and returns change daily, so comparisons need a common date and methodology. |
On the evidence available, Hanil Cement offers a documented KRW 1,000 annual dividend and a construction-sensitive operating profile, while the 40% return claim lacks the dates and methodology needed for validation. Investors should separate those established facts from the unverified performance headline.
