Online applications through the HC-OJAS portal opened July 16, 2021, at 12:00 and closed August 6, 2021, at 23:59. The deadline is also reported as midnight on the closing day in contemporaneous coverage by Scroll. The detailed advertisement’s stated closing time was 23:59.

The historical application fee was Rs. 350 plus bank charges for SC, ST, SEBC, EWS, PH and ex-servicemen candidates, and Rs. 700 plus bank charges for other candidates. The notice specified SBI e-Pay, with online payment or cash-challan options; it required payment for an application to be treated as valid. These fees and payment instructions applied to the 2021 cycle only.
Who could apply under the notice
Applicants had to meet all of the following basic requirements:
- Hold a degree from a recognized university.
- Have studied English as a subject in either Standard 10 or Standard 12.
- Hold the prescribed certificate for basic computer knowledge.
- Be at least 18 and no older than 35 years on August 6, 2021, subject to the notice’s age relaxations.
The advertisement capped the upper age at 45 years after applicable relaxations. Reservation and relaxation benefits were limited to candidates belonging to the relevant Gujarat categories specified in the notice. The exact conditions depend on category and other listed circumstances; consult the original advertisement rather than applying these limits broadly.
How selection worked
The process consisted of a 100-mark elimination test followed by a 100-mark main written examination. The elimination test screened candidates for the main exam; its marks did not contribute to final merit.

Elimination test
- Format: 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks.
- Time: Two hours.
- Negative marking: 0.33 marks deducted for each wrong answer or multiple answer.
- Language: The paper was in English, with 25 Gujarati-language questions in the Gujarati section.
- Subjects: General Knowledge; Indian History and Geography; Sports; Current Affairs; Arithmetic/Mathematics; Analytical Reasoning; Mental Ability; Computer Knowledge; English Language; and Gujarati Language.
- Minimum score to qualify: 45 marks for ST, SEBC, EWS, PH and ex-servicemen candidates; 50 marks for other candidates.
The notice tentatively scheduled this test for October 10, 2021.
Main written examination
- Format and time: 100 marks over three hours.
- General English: 50 marks.
- General Knowledge: 50 marks.
- Answer language: Questions and answers were generally in English. Answers required for translation or otherwise specified in Gujarati had to be written in Gujarati.
The main examination was tentatively scheduled for December 2021. Select and wait lists were to be prepared using aggregate main-exam marks, with a minimum aggregate of 40% for inclusion in the select list.
