The assets and brand were to be operated through Guild Esports and Gaming Ltd.; that separate company later announced it would close and entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on 2 September 2025.
What the 2024 buyout did—and did not—include
On 5 August 2024, Guild Esports PLC announced a letter of intent for DCB Sports LLC to acquire Guild’s assets and assume disclosed liabilities. At that point, the company cautioned that completion was not guaranteed. Guild Esports PLC’s August 2024 announcement.
The transaction completed on 16 October 2024. Guild said DCB acquired 100% of its assets, assumed disclosed liabilities exceeding £2 million, and paid £100,000 in cash immediately to the PLC. DCB was to operate the brand through a new entity, Guild Esports and Gaming Ltd., and provide future working capital. Guild Esports PLC’s completion announcement.
This was an asset acquisition, not evidence that DCB bought Guild Esports PLC. The stated cash payment went to the PLC; the announcement does not establish that shareholders received proceeds from an acquisition.

How the operating company reached closure
Guild Esports and Gaming Ltd. later announced that it would close. The company said: “Despite our best efforts, financial challenges and the current economic climate have made it impossible for us to continue operating.” It also said: “After careful consideration, we must share the difficult news that Guild Esports & Gaming will be closing.” The company’s closure statement thanked fans, players, staff, and partners but did not specify debts, explain the buyer’s subsequent decisions, or set out a detailed wind-down plan.

The distinction matters: the 2024 asset sale involved Guild Esports PLC, while the later closure announcement and liquidation concern Guild Esports and Gaming Ltd. The PLC should not be described as having entered liquidation on the operating company’s liquidation date.
What the financial figures show
Defence Holdings plc’s annual report for the 18-month period ended 31 March 2025 reports revenue of £4.33 million, down 21.5% from £5.53 million, and an operating loss of £2.91 million. The report covers the former Guild Esports PLC business over that 18-month period; these are not results for Guild Esports and Gaming Ltd. and are not single-year figures. Those figures provide financial context, but they do not by themselves establish why the later operating company closed. The company’s stated explanation was financial challenges and the economic climate; the available company statement does not identify a more specific cause.
What is—and is not—established about unpaid amounts
Esports Insider reported concerns from players and creators about missing payments around the closure. That reporting establishes that concerns were raised, not the amounts involved, who was owed, or whether claims were settled. Esports Insider’s closure coverage. Did the Guild brand continue?
The closure statement and Companies House filings establish the operating company’s closure and liquidation, but do not establish whether the Guild brand, assets, or any operations continued afterward. A definitive claim about the brand’s post-liquidation status is therefore not supported by these records.
