That is a specific change for a specific service in Indonesia—not a region-wide rule or a rate established for delivery and other platform services. The companies have also disclosed different forms of driver support, but none of the available figures establishes how much a typical driver takes home after expenses.
What the reported 8% commission agreement covers
ANTARA News reported that GoTo and Grab Indonesia agreed to an 8% commission on two-wheel online passenger rides beginning July 1, 2026. The report followed a meeting with a legislative official. It does not establish that the rate applies across Southeast Asia, to four-wheel rides, or to delivery and other services. Commission is the platform’s share of an eligible fare; lowering it can leave more of that fare with a driver before costs. But the practical effect on take-home income depends on trip volume, fares, incentives, and expenses such as fuel and vehicle upkeep. The reported rate therefore describes a policy term, not a guaranteed earnings increase for every driver.
How GoTo and Grab describe driver support
The companies’ disclosed programs differ in form. A per-ride commission rate changes the share retained on eligible rides; incentives and fuel support are company-funded assistance; a holiday bonus is seasonal and limited to qualifying partners. Without comparable amounts, eligibility rules, and recurrence, these measures cannot be ranked as equivalent improvements in net pay.

What Grab’s margin figure says—and does not say
In its Q2 2026 results, Grab reported Mobility segment adjusted EBITDA at 8.6% of Mobility GMV, down 9 basis points year over year. Grab linked the quarter’s incentive recalibration to supporting driver-partner earnings. This offers a company-reported illustration of the tension between funding driver support and maintaining segment economics; it does not isolate the cost of the Indonesian commission agreement or quantify the resulting change in any driver’s earnings. Why the share-price claims need qualification
The headline’s claims that GoTo is down 90% from its 2022 peak and Grab is down 50% over the past year are not established by the available price data. To verify either percentage, a comparison needs a defined end date and a consistent series—such as closing prices, intraday highs, or adjusted prices. Without those details, the declines should not be treated as confirmed figures.
Share-price performance also answers a different question from driver compensation. A stock decline does not by itself show that a company can or cannot afford better driver terms, and company revenue or profit does not reveal an individual partner’s net earnings.

What drivers’ take-home pay remains unknown
The company disclosures and news report do not provide a comparable driver-level earnings dataset. They do not establish typical net income after fuel, vehicle costs, waiting time, incentives, and other expenses, nor do they show how many drivers qualify for the disclosed support. For a driver evaluating the practical impact, the relevant calculation is earnings from eligible rides plus incentives and bonuses, minus operating costs and unpaid time—not the commission rate or a company-wide financial metric alone.
