Yes, in the business product Google announced, a Gemini coworker agent can have its own Google Workspace identity, including an email address. Google says that identity can also include a calendar, Drive and a place in the company directory. This is a feature of the Gemini agent announced for work on October 8, 2026—not a claim that a personal Gemini account can create itself an email address. Google has not specified general availability, eligible Workspace plans or pricing in its announcement.
What is a Gemini coworker agent?
Google describes its Gemini agent as a work-focused agent for knowledge tasks, answering questions, creating content and writing or running code. In coworker-agent mode, a team can define the agent’s role and give it a separate Workspace account. Google’s announcement says the agent can work across Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar.

The separate account is the important distinction: colleagues can interact with the agent as a distinct participant rather than as an extension of one employee’s account. Google says it can be added to a Chat space, mentioned by colleagues, or respond to work in a document. Its example is an events-coordinator agent helping a marketing team prepare a launch-readiness document.
How does its email address and access work?
Google says a coworker agent operates under its own identity, which can include an email address, calendar, Drive and company-directory presence. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, summarized the access model in the October 8 announcement: “A coworker agent acts under its own identity rather than yours, and it sees only what you share with it.”

In practical terms, the announcement describes a business-controlled identity and context-sharing model. It does not establish that the agent automatically has access to an employee’s mailbox or the company’s files. What it can see depends on context shared with it by a user or team, alongside whatever authorization and permissions administrators configure. Google has not published implementation details sufficient to determine every access, audit or retention behavior.

Google’s examples describe work spanning several Workspace apps. These are announced capabilities and illustrations from Google, not independently verified performance results.

- Coordinate a meeting: Check calendars, use team context to find a suitable time, and coordinate an email thread that may include people outside the organization.
- Draft and collaborate on documents: Create a document and respond to a comment under the agent’s own name.
- Participate in team Chat: Join a space, respond when mentioned and share work with colleagues.
Google also says the agent can select models for different tasks, including Google Gemini-family models and Anthropic’s Claude models. It mentions the possibility of other private and open models in the future, but does not provide a complete model catalog or selection rules.

How is this different from Google’s earlier Workspace agent features?
Google had already described cross-app agentic features for Workspace in a September 9, 2026 post. That announcement said Gemini could use relevant files, email and chat threads—depending on what users select or administrators enable—to produce work such as documents and slides under user direction.
The October coworker-agent announcement adds a different concept: a team-defined agent with its own Workspace identity. Cross-app assistance under a user’s direction and an agent with its own email and directory presence should not be treated as the same feature or as proof that either is generally available.
What should an organization check before relying on it?
Google’s announcement mentions administration, governance, authorization and permission controls, secure sandboxing, network gateways and spending controls. It does not provide implementation specifications or independent security validation. Organizations assessing the feature should get answers to these practical questions before granting access or planning a deployment:

- Identity and accountability: Can the agent’s actions be attributed to its own account in the organization’s audit and review processes?
- Access scope: Which files, email, calendars, Chat spaces and other sources can it use, and who controls that access?
- App and connector support: Which Workspace apps and external services will be available to the agent in the intended setup?
- Model and usage controls: Which models can administrators allow, and how do model choice and usage affect spending?
- Privacy and retention: What data is processed and retained, and what controls apply to the specific deployment?
Google’s Workspace Generative AI Privacy Hub, last updated October 6, 2026, is relevant background on Gemini in Workspace and related products. It is not, on the information available in the launch announcement, a complete specification of coworker-agent controls. Consult the current policy and deployment documentation for the exact configuration under consideration.

Google’s October 8, 2026 announcement does not specify a general availability date, eligible Workspace editions or customer plans, or pricing. It also does not explain how model selection or usage would affect costs. Those details should be treated as unannounced rather than inferred from Google’s descriptions of customer adoption.

For context, Google reported in that announcement that nearly 500 Google Cloud customers each processed more than one trillion tokens in the last year, nearly 80% of Google Cloud customers use Google AI products, and nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise. These are Google-reported figures, not independently audited statistics, and they do not establish availability or pricing for coworker agents.
Can Gemini have its own email address?
Google says its announced coworker-agent mode can give a work agent a separate Workspace account that includes an email address. That describes a business feature for an organization to configure; it does not mean an individual consumer Gemini account can independently create a Google email account. The announcement does not yet say when the coworker-agent feature will be available or which customers can use it.
