As of June 16, 2025, you can no longer use a linked PayPal account to pay with Google Wallet in the US. Google says linking a PayPal account as a Wallet payment method is currently supported only in Germany. This change does not mean every PayPal-branded card or every Google Pay checkout option has stopped working.
What changed—and what “PayPal payments” means
The discontinued feature was linking a PayPal account directly to the Google Wallet app as a payment method. Google says linked accounts were automatically deleted and can no longer be used for payments from June 16, 2025. Its current Google Wallet Help page says PayPal-account linking is supported only in Germany.
That is different from paying online with a card saved in Wallet, and different again from Google Pay appearing as an option during a merchant’s PayPal checkout. PayPal’s developer documentation describes the latter merchant-side integration; it does not restore the ability to link a US PayPal account to Google Wallet.
Which payment routes are affected?

What to do if PayPal disappeared from Wallet
- For tap-to-pay: Open Google Wallet and select another payment card. Google says PayPal-branded debit cards are supported, but adding one does not restore the linked-account feature.
- For online Google Pay checkout: Add at least one card to Google Wallet. Google recommends having a card in Wallet to keep using Google Pay online. See Google Pay Help.
- For external subscriptions or recurring bills: Contact each merchant that billed your linked PayPal account and update the payment method there. Google advises updating payment details with those merchants. Google Wallet Help
Will subscriptions stop working?
It depends on who bills you. For recurring payments or subscriptions from non-Google merchants that used the linked PayPal account, update the payment method directly with each merchant. Google says subscriptions made with PayPal for Google services, such as the Play Store, should not be affected by this Wallet change. Google Wallet Help

For transaction history associated with the removed Wallet link, Google directs users to their PayPal account. Google Wallet Help
Refunds for earlier in-store purchases
If you need a refund for an earlier in-store purchase made with PayPal through Google Wallet, Google says to request it from the merchant. When the refund is processed, the money returns to PayPal. Google Wallet Help

Why the distinction matters
“PayPal with Google Wallet” can describe different payment setups. The change affects a PayPal account linked inside Wallet, while cards added to Wallet and Google Pay as an option in a merchant’s PayPal checkout are separate routes. Check where you paid, what credential you used, and which company bills a recurring payment before changing anything.
