Children with a parent-supervised Google Account can use Google Wallet for in-store tap-to-pay and add some digital passes—but only with Family Link supervision and an NFC-capable device. While the account is supervised, Wallet cannot be used for online, in-app, Google Play or YouTube payments. Google has also announced a separate U.S.-only Wallet balance for children and teens under 18; that is not the same as adding a payment card.
Can kids use Google Wallet?
Yes, if the child has a Google Account supervised by a parent through Family Link and lives in a country where the feature is available. Google’s eligibility threshold is under 13, or under the applicable age in the child’s country. Wallet for kids also requires an NFC-capable device; a device without NFC cannot be used for this feature. Check Google’s current eligibility and country list, since availability can change.
Google currently lists availability in Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Columbia (spelled that way on Google’s page), Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Northern Mariana Islands, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK, Ukraine, the US and US Virgin Islands.
Can my child tap to pay with Google Wallet?
Yes. A child can tap to pay in stores using a payment card supported by Google Wallet, provided the child is the cardholder or an authorized user. The card issuer may have its own requirements. During supervision, the child cannot use Wallet for online or in-app purchases, or for payments across Google services such as Play and YouTube. Google describes these limits in its Wallet for kids help page.

What passes can kids add to Google Wallet?
Children can add supported passes themselves, without a parent completing each addition. Google lists these supported pass types:
- Loyalty cards
- Gift cards
- Boarding passes
- Event tickets
Local transit cards, digital car keys, hotel keys, student IDs, driver’s licenses, ID passes, insurance cards and vaccine cards are not currently supported for children, according to Google’s supported-items list.

What can parents see and manage?
A parent with the required Family Link permissions can manage the child’s Wallet through Family Link or the Google Wallet website. Parents can add or remotely remove payment cards, review recent tap-to-pay transactions, receive emails about payment transactions and block pass features. Google notes that Wallet may not show every transaction; for a complete history, families should check the card issuer’s app.
Passes work differently from payment cards. Parents are not notified when a child adds or uses a pass, and they cannot remove individual passes. They can block all pass features. Google explains the available controls in Manage Google Wallet for kids.

Can I set a spending limit?
Google Wallet and Family Link do not provide spending controls for payment cards added to a supervised child’s Wallet. The card issuer may offer its own controls, so check with the issuer rather than assuming a card has a limit.
Google announced a different option on August 6, 2026: a Google Wallet balance that U.S. parents can set up for children and teens under 18. Google says parents can transfer money, set spending limits, track transactions in real time and lock or unlock the balance. This balance is separate from a payment card stored in Wallet, so its controls do not change the rules for card payments. Google’s announcement said scheduled automated payments were coming soon; it did not establish that they are available now. See the Google Wallet balance announcement for its terms and availability.

How do you set up Wallet for a child?
A parent with Family Link parent permissions must assist with adding a supported payment card. Google’s setup instructions require the parent to be physically present with the child during setup, sign in to their own Google Account and provide parental consent. The child needs an NFC-capable device and an eligible supervised account. Follow Google’s current setup and management steps, because available screens and requirements can change.
What changes when a child reaches the local age threshold?
At 13, or the applicable age in the child’s country, the child may keep supervision, update the account while keeping supervision, or update the account and stop supervision. Google says the family receives reminder emails before the birthday. If supervision ends, the child can add payment cards independently and use them for online, in-app and Google payments. Parents then lose Wallet transaction visibility, the ability to add or remove the child’s cards, and the ability to block passes, according to Google’s account transition guidance.
