Google announced on October 9, 2024, that Store Ratings would expand to English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom. The feature had been available to US searchers. For merchants, Store Ratings are business-level signals about shoppers’ post-fulfillment experience—not ratings of individual products—and Google says they may appear in both paid and unpaid formats. The announcement is historical; current display and eligibility details are set out in Google Merchant Center guidance.
What Google announced in October 2024
Google’s expansion announcement covered English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the UK. Search Engine Roundtable reported the announcement on October 10, 2024, reproducing Google’s wording: “Google’s Store Ratings have been helping US merchants highlight the high quality experiences other shoppers have had right from Search, and we’re now bringing store ratings to English-language shopping searches in Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom.”
This establishes the announced markets and language scope; it does not establish a separate launch date or exact placement behavior for each country. Google’s live merchant guidance describes the feature more generally.
What Store Ratings measure—and how they differ from Product Ratings
Store Ratings describe a merchant’s overall shopper experience, primarily after fulfillment. Product Ratings, by contrast, apply to specific products. A merchant-level rating should not be read as a review of the particular item shown beside it.

A Store Rating display may include a score out of five, review count, a qualifier such as average delivery time when available, and a link to recent reviews. Google says ratings may appear on mobile and web across the Search Network and YouTube, in paid and unpaid formats. “May” matters: Google does not promise a rating for every merchant, query or placement.
Where the review data comes from
Google says it draws on multiple sources, including Google Customer Reviews and third-party aggregators. It applies internal weighting to source data, but its overview does not disclose the weighting formula. Google also describes retailer-shopping-experience evaluation programs run by Google and partners.

Ratings are country-specific: reviews from customers in one country contribute to the merchant’s rating in that country. Google’s guidance refers to a five-year review window when describing whether enough eligible reviews are available for a country-specific rating.
How merchants can participate
Google identifies three routes for a merchant to obtain Store Ratings:

Google describes this Merchant Center program as free. It is a route for collecting customer feedback after purchases.
- Work with a supported review partner. Google’s overview lists providers including Trustpilot and Yotpo, as well as other services. Merchants can contact a supported partner directly; check Google’s current supported-partner information and the provider’s capabilities before choosing a service.
- Be selected for an evaluation. Google or a partner may evaluate retailer shopping experiences. This is not a participation route a merchant can assume will be available on demand.
Whichever route a merchant uses, review volume alone does not guarantee a rating. Google says it needs enough eligible, unique, post-fulfillment reviews for the relevant country, and that the amount can vary by merchant. Its guidance does not set one universal minimum count.
Paid ads and unpaid appearances have different stated criteria
Google’s ad guidance says a merchant must have an average composite rating of at least 3.5 stars for Store Ratings to show on ads. The visible ad URL domain must also match the domain for which Google has ratings. These are ad-specific criteria; they should not be treated as universal requirements for every unpaid appearance.

For unpaid formats, Google says Store Ratings may appear but does not provide a guaranteed placement for every eligible merchant. The public guidance therefore supports a possibility, not a promise, of an unpaid display.

Google Merchant Center Help reports an average 2% improvement in Search Network text-ad click-through rate associated with Store Ratings. This is Google’s reported average from its undated live documentation, accessed October 5, 2026—not a guaranteed result for an individual merchant. The figure concerns text ads, not unpaid listings or every Google placement.

Practical checks before choosing a review route
- Confirm that the service is on Google’s supported-partner list if you plan to use a third party.
- Ask how the service collects post-purchase feedback and whether it shares eligible reviews with Google.
- Check coverage for the countries where your customers shop; ratings use country-specific review data.
- Assess whether the collected reviews are unique and post-fulfillment, since Google’s eligibility guidance focuses on those reviews.
- For ad eligibility, verify the composite score and matching-domain conditions separately from any expectations about unpaid display.
