Prices and stock can change, so check the exact configuration and checkout total before buying.
For most shoppers, an unlocked Pixel 9 from Google or a major retailer is the simplest choice. A lower-priced retailer listing or used phone may save money, but only if the seller, condition, warranty, and return terms check out. A carrier offer is worth considering only after you include the required plan and any bill-credit conditions.

The Google Store’s “from $799” price should not be read as a verified current price for every storage tier. Its live product selector is the place to confirm the configuration available to order. The $22.19 monthly figure is a financing example; verify taxes, fees, and terms before accepting financing.

Where to buy the Pixel 9
Google Store: unlocked and direct
Google’s U.S. Store sells the Pixel 9 unlocked, so you can choose a compatible carrier separately. The Store also offers carrier activation with AT&T and Verizon. Google’s carrier activation guidance notes that carrier promotions and return terms can differ from a straightforward unlocked purchase. Compare the terms shown for your chosen route, including any offer conditions.
Best Buy: check local stock and configuration
Best Buy has product pages for the 128GB unlocked Pixel 9 in Porcelain and Obsidian. A product page does not establish a current sale price or local availability. Before ordering, confirm whether the phone is new or open-box, unlocked, in stock, and subject to any membership, activation, protection-plan, or return conditions.
Walmart: only after checking the seller
A Walmart listing surfaced at $649.97 for a 128GB unlocked Pixel 9. The available price signal does not establish who the seller is or settle the device’s condition and warranty. Check the listing for the seller name and rating, whether Walmart or a third party fulfills the order, U.S. model compatibility, return deadline, and who provides warranty service. The $149.03 gap from Google’s $799 starting price is a comparison of surfaced prices, not proof that the two offers are equivalent.

Carriers: judge the whole contract, not the phone line
Google confirms U.S. Store carrier activation with AT&T and Verizon, but that does not establish a current carrier discount. The cited Verizon launch-era offer listed a 128GB Pixel 9 at $799.99 with a qualifying plan and 36-month device payments; it is historical information, not an August 2026 deal. Check Verizon or AT&T directly for any live offer and its complete conditions. Other carriers may have inventory or promotions, but availability is not established here.

Swappa’s July 31, 2026 snapshot showed examples around $398 for a 128GB T-Mobile unit and $330 for a 256GB Verizon unit. Those examples are not directly comparable with Google’s new unlocked starting price: carrier status, storage, condition, warranty, and listing price differ. Check the specific listing, seller rating, return protections, and whether the device is unlocked before paying.

Choose the route that fits your priorities
- For flexibility and a straightforward purchase: Start with the unlocked Google Store option or a confirmed new, unlocked unit from a major retailer. This makes it easier to compare the phone price separately from wireless service.
- For local pickup: Check Best Buy’s live page for nearby stock, exact condition, and the total price. The product pages alone do not establish a current price.
- For a lower new-phone price: Consider the Walmart listing only if its seller, U.S. model, condition, warranty, and return terms are clear and acceptable.
- For carrier savings: Prefer a deal from a carrier you already intend to keep, and calculate the cost of the qualifying plan and all credits over the full term.
- For the lowest potential purchase price: A used listing may be attractive if the savings justify the added condition, lock-status, and warranty risks.
Unlocked versus carrier-sold: what changes?
A factory-unlocked phone is not tied to one carrier, but it still must be compatible with the carrier’s network and plan. Google explains that a SIM-unlocked Pixel can be used with compatible mobile providers in its unlocked-phone guidance. “Works with” a carrier is not the same as factory unlocked, and a used phone’s financing or device status can create separate restrictions.
The Pixel 9 supports one physical SIM and eSIM; Google also describes two-eSIM use where the carrier permits it. Confirm the carrier supports the SIM setup you intend to use. A carrier-financed phone may also be subject to a payment balance, a lock policy, or promotion terms that make switching less convenient.
How much Pixel 9 storage should you buy?
The standard Pixel 9 is offered in 128GB and 256GB configurations. Google’s specifications list 12GB of RAM and the Tensor G4 processor alongside a 6.3-inch Actua display. Choose storage based on what you keep on the phone rather than assuming the larger configuration is a better deal; a current 256GB price was not established here.

- 128GB may suit you if you mostly stream media, take a moderate number of photos, and regularly remove or back up files.
- 256GB may suit you if you keep large photo and video libraries, install many games, or download media for offline use.
- Before paying more, compare the live price difference for the exact color and condition you want. Retailers may show a “from” price tied to only one configuration.

Work out: phone price + sales tax + any charger or accessories − instant discount − trade-in credit. Google lists its 45W USB-C charger as sold separately. Confirm whether a trade-in credit is immediate or conditional, and review financing terms rather than comparing only the monthly payment.
Carrier purchase
Work out: down payment + taxes and fees + device installments − bill credits + the cost of any required plan premium + trade-in cost. Add activation or upgrade fees where applicable. Check whether credits require keeping the line active through a set period and what happens to the remaining phone balance if you leave early.

Is the Pixel 9 worth buying in 2026?
The Pixel 9 is an older generation now that Pixel 11 preorders were reported in August 2026; TechRadar reported Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro preorders. That generation change may affect Pixel 9 stock and discounts, but it does not establish a particular retailer’s inventory or a current Pixel 11 price. Compare the Pixel 9’s final price with current-generation alternatives before paying its $799 starting price.
