Google Nest Aware’s August 15, 2025 Price Increase Explained: What You Pay Now

Yes, Google Nest Aware prices increased—but the relevant date was August 15, 2025, not a newly verified August 2026 increase. The higher-tier plan reportedly rose from $150 to $200 per year for affected U.S. subscribers. Google later renamed second-generation Nest Aware purchased directly from Google as Google Home Premium on October 1, 2025.

Google’s announced U.S. prices are now $10 per month or $100 per year for Google Home Premium Standard, and $20 per month or $200 per year for Advanced. Your actual charge can differ because of your plan generation, billing platform, region, taxes, promotions, or whether a security partner bills you.

The short answer

If you saw a notice about a Nest Aware increase in August, it most likely referred to the first billing cycle on or after August 15, 2025. Subscriber notices reported at the time identified that date as the effective date for the affected increase. Google’s current price-change guidance says customers are generally notified by email about 30 days before a price increase in their country or territory.

For subscriptions purchased directly from Google, second-generation Nest Aware is now called Google Home Premium:

#1 Best Overall
Google Nest Cam Indoor (Wired, 3rd Gen) - Security Camera - 2025 - Snow
  • Meet the smarter, sharper wired Google Nest Cam Indoor; with 2K HDR video and Gemini, it knows what to look out for and what to do next[1,2,3](Gemini features require a Google Home premium subscription; try it for 1 month at no cost to you)[4]
  • With an Advanced subscription to Google Home Premium, know more about what’s happening with notifications like “Kids are playing soccer in the living room”[3]; and get even more detailed descriptions and tap to see a summary of what happened[3]
  • Google Nest Cam Indoor keeps your data safe with encrypted video, two-step verification,
and enhanced security through your Google Account; and a
green LED light lets you know when it’s processing or streaming video
  • Video is crisp and clear in 2K HDR, Nest Cam’s highest resolution yet[1,2]; see rich color and details, and see in the dark with night vision; and with a wider, taller field of view, you can see even more of a long hallway or large room[1]
  • Search your video history with help from Gemini[3]; try something like “What happened to the vase in the living room?” to see a summary and relevant clips (subscription required)
  • Google Home Premium Standard: $10 monthly or $100 annually in the U.S.; formerly Nest Aware.
  • Google Home Premium Advanced: $20 monthly or $200 annually in the U.S.; formerly Nest Aware Plus.

Those prices come from Google’s October 1, 2025 announcement. They should not be treated as a universal price for every Nest customer.

Google’s price-change guidance and your own billing account are more reliable than an undated headline or an old email being recirculated.

What changed, and when?

Date What happened
2020 Google introduced whole-home second-generation Nest Aware plans at $6 per month for Nest Aware and $12 per month for Nest Aware Plus.
August 15, 2025 The reported effective date for the higher-tier price increase, applying to billing cycles beginning on or after that date.
October 1, 2025 Google renamed direct-purchased second-generation Nest Aware as Google Home Premium.
August 2026 No separate new August 2026 increase is verified in the available material. A new account-specific Google notice would take precedence.

The August 15 date is supported by subscriber notices and contemporaneous secondary reporting, rather than by Google’s currently indexed price-change help page reproducing the original notice. Treat it as the reported effective date and check the date in your own Google email or account.

Google’s 2020 announcement is useful historical context, but those original prices are not the current direct-subscription rates.

Current U.S. prices and features

Current plan Former name Monthly price Annual price Video history
Standard Nest Aware $10 $100 30 days of event-based history
Advanced Nest Aware Plus $20 $200 60 days of event-based history plus 10 days of 24/7 history

Annual billing is cheaper than paying the monthly rate for 12 months: Standard works out to about $8.33 per month, while Advanced works out to about $16.67 per month. That saving only makes sense if you expect to keep the plan for the full year. Taxes, currency conversion, local pricing, app-store billing, and promotional pricing may change the amount you actually pay.

Google Home Premium Standard

Standard is designed for households that mainly need cloud storage for motion or sound events. Google lists:

Rank #2
Google Nest Cam Outdoor (Wired, 2nd Gen) - Security Camera - Snow - 2 Pack
  • Meet the smarter, sharper wired Google Nest Cam Outdoor; with 2K HDR video and Gemini, it knows what to look out for and what to do next[1,2,3](Gemini features require a Google Home premium subscription; try it for 1 month at no cost to you)[4]
  • Stay in the know with always-on power: Nest Cam Outdoor keeps you plugged into home, day and night, with no need to recharge or replace batteries
  • Google Nest Cam Outdoor keeps your data safe with encrypted video, two-step verification,
and enhanced security through your Google Account; and a
green LED light lets you know when it’s processing or streaming video
  • With an Advanced subscription to Google Home Premium, know more about what’s happening with notifications like “Rabbits eating garden plants”[3]; get even more detailed descriptions and tap to see a summary of what happened[3]
  • Video is crisp and clear in 2K HDR, Nest Cam’s highest resolution yet[1,2]; see rich color and details, and see in the dark with night vision; a wider, taller field of view means almost nothing’s out of frame[1] – even in a long driveway or big yard
  • 30 days of event-based video history
  • Intelligent camera alerts
  • Familiar-face detection
  • Sound detection
  • Whole-home coverage for compatible Nest cameras and related devices
  • Some Gemini-related Google Home capabilities, depending on device, region, and rollout

Google Home Premium Advanced

Advanced includes Standard’s features and adds:

  • 60 days of event-based video history
  • 10 days of continuous 24/7 video history for eligible wired cameras and doorbells
  • AI-generated camera descriptions and notifications
  • Home Brief
  • Searchable camera history and related Gemini camera features

Advanced does not guarantee continuous recording on every Nest camera. Battery-powered cameras generally cannot provide the same 24/7 recording experience as wired devices, and feature availability varies by hardware, software, region, and rollout.

Who is actually affected?

Second-generation direct subscribers

These are the customers most closely associated with the August 2025 change and the later rebrand. The plans cover compatible devices throughout a Google Home rather than charging separately for each camera.

First-generation Nest Aware subscribers

First-generation customers are different. Their plans are tied to individual cameras and may include older continuous-recording arrangements. Google no longer sells new first-generation plans, but existing subscriptions can generally continue renewing.

Do not cancel a legacy plan casually. Google warns that a cancelled first-generation subscription generally cannot be restored. Unpreserved video history, settings, or preferences associated with it may also be lost. Save important clips and use Google’s export options before changing plans.

Moving to Google Home Premium could save money or cost the same for a household with multiple cameras, but the result depends on the number of cameras, the legacy plan, and the features you need.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Partner-billed customers

Nest Aware supplied through a home-security partner such as ADT or AT&T may retain the Nest Aware name and follow separate pricing and billing rules. A direct Google price change does not automatically establish what a partner customer will pay. Check the partner’s invoice and terms.

Rank #3
Google Nest Cam Outdoor or Indoor, Battery - Wireless Security Camera
  • Nest Cam has built-in intelligence and can tell the difference between a person, animal, and vehicle and send alerts directly through the Google Home app[1], no subscription required.Controller Type:Google Assistant.Connectivity protocol:Bluetooth;Wi-Fi.Power source type:Battery Powered.Operating Temperature : –4°F to 104°F (–20°C to 40°C).
  • Easily check in from anywhere 24/7 with 1080p HDR video[1] with night vision, and see what you missed with 3 hours of free event video history[2]; add a Nest Aware subscription (sold separately) for up to 60 days of video history[3]
  • If your Wi-Fi goes down or there’s a power outage, Nest Cam will store up to an hour of recorded events so you can see what you missed[4]. Nest Cam Outdoor comes with a wall plate that can be mounted on your brick wall.
  • Put Nest Cam anywhere, outside or in; it’s battery powered, so you don’t need to set it up near an outlet, and the magnetic mount makes installation effortless
  • For continuous power and 24/7 video recording with Nest Aware Plus, add a weatherproof power cable or indoor stand with power cable (both sold separately)

Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers

Google announced that qualifying Google AI subscriptions can include Google Home Premium benefits:

  • Google AI Pro includes the Standard-level benefit, with Advanced available as an additional upgrade.
  • Google AI Ultra includes Advanced.

Availability, eligible devices, regions, and terms can vary. Do not assume that every Google One or Google AI subscription includes the same tier. If you already pay for an eligible plan, compare its total cost with a standalone camera subscription—but do not buy a broader AI plan solely to reduce a camera bill unless you value its other benefits.

How to check what you actually pay

Use the billing platform that charged you. The plan name in a headline may not match the name on your account.

Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial in the upper-right corner.
  3. Open Home settings.
  4. Select Subscriptions.
  5. Choose Google Home Premium.

Google documents this path for Android users. iPhone and iPad users may need to manage a direct subscription through the Google Store instead.

Google Store

Open the Google Store subscription controls and check the current plan, billing period, next renewal date, payment method, and renewal amount. This is the key record for subscriptions purchased through the Google Store.

Google Play

If Google Play processed the purchase, use Google Play’s subscription controls. Cancelling or changing a Google Store subscription will not necessarily stop a separate Google Play billing arrangement.

Rank #4
Google Nest Cam Outdoor or Indoor, Battery - 2nd Generation - 2 Count (Pack of 1)
  • Nest Cam has built-in intelligence and can tell the difference between a person, animal, and vehicle and send alerts directly through the Google Home app[1], no subscription required.Operating Temperature : –4°F to 104°F (–20°C to 40°C)
  • Easily check in from anywhere 24/7 with 1080p HDR video[1] with night vision, and see what you missed with 3 hours of free event video history[2]; add a Nest Aware subscription (sold separately) for up to 60 days of video history[3]

Nest app or Nest Store

A first-generation plan may still appear through the Nest app or Nest Store. Do not assume that seeing “Nest Aware” means you have Google Home Premium, or that a legacy plan automatically converted.

Google’s subscription-management guidance explains these billing-platform distinctions.

Should you keep, downgrade, or change plans?

Your situation Likely choice Why
You only need event clips and 30 days is enough Standard It costs less and provides the core event-history features.
You need 24/7 history on an eligible wired camera Advanced It is the tier that includes 10 days of continuous history.
You need 60 days of event history or Advanced AI camera tools Advanced Standard does not include those allowances and features.
You have several compatible cameras Compare Premium with legacy per-camera costs Whole-home coverage may be more economical, but the calculation depends on your old plan.
You have first-generation Nest Aware Review before cancelling Your old plan may not be recoverable, and unsaved history may be lost.
You already pay for Google AI Pro or Ultra Check included Home Premium benefits A bundled benefit may change the effective cost.

The most useful comparison is not simply $10 versus $20. Include the number of cameras, annual rather than monthly billing, required history, whether your cameras are wired, and the value of any AI bundle you would otherwise purchase.

What happens if you cancel?

  • When the subscription lapses, access to subscription-based video history is lost.
  • Important clips should be saved or exported before cancellation.
  • First-generation plans generally cannot be repurchased after cancellation.
  • Cancellation must be completed through Google Store, Google Play, Nest, or the partner that billed you.

Saved clips and timelapses may remain available, but do not rely on that for unsaved history. Google’s first-generation guidance details the legacy-plan risks.

Can another camera ecosystem lower your cost?

Switching may make sense if your primary need is cloud video storage and you no longer value Google Home integration. Ring Protect is most natural for Ring hardware and the Amazon ecosystem; Arlo Secure is designed around Arlo cameras and its own cloud plans; and some Eufy Security products emphasize local storage or reduced reliance on recurring cloud fees, depending on the model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those are not like-for-like replacements. Switching usually means replacing hardware, learning a new app, and accepting different privacy, storage, AI, and smart-home trade-offs. Compare total annual cost, camera compatibility, event-history length, continuous-recording support, local versus cloud storage, and cancellation consequences. Alternative vendor prices are not included here because they change by country, product, and promotion.

A five-minute billing triage

  1. Find the charge: Look at the merchant name and amount on your bank or card statement.
  2. Identify the platform: Determine whether Google Store, Google Play, Nest, ADT, AT&T, or another partner billed you.
  3. Identify the generation: Decide whether the account shows Google Home Premium, second-generation Nest Aware, or first-generation Nest Aware.
  4. Compare the renewal: Check the next renewal date and amount, including taxes and the end of any promotion.
  5. Match features to needs: Keep Advanced for eligible 24/7 recording or Advanced-only features; consider Standard if event clips are sufficient.
  6. Protect your data: Export important history before cancelling a legacy plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nest Aware now Google Home Premium?

Second-generation Nest Aware purchased directly from Google was renamed Google Home Premium on October 1, 2025. The former Nest Aware plan is Standard, and Nest Aware Plus is Advanced. Partner-billed services may still use the Nest Aware name.

Did every Nest customer receive the August increase?

No. Legacy plans, partner billing, regions, taxes, promotions, and billing platforms can produce different prices. Check your own renewal notice and account.

Does Advanced continuously record every Nest camera?

No. The 10-day 24/7 history benefit applies to eligible wired cameras and doorbells. Battery-powered devices generally cannot provide the same continuous-recording experience.
