Google AI Plus expanded to the United States on January 27, 2026, as part of a 35-country-and-territory rollout. The launch price was $7.99 a month with 200GB of storage, but Google’s U.S. subscription page now lists the plan at $4.99 a month with 400GB. Those current figures were listed on August 18, 2026; check Google’s checkout page for the price and terms offered to your account.
What Google AI Plus is—and what launched in the U.S.
Google AI Plus is a paid Google One-linked subscription tier, not a separate Gemini app. It combines more access to Gemini and other Google AI features with cloud storage and Google product integrations. Google positioned it below Google AI Pro.
On January 27, 2026, Google said the plan was expanding to 35 new countries and territories, including the United States. The plan had first been introduced in Indonesia and had subsequently rolled out in other markets. Google’s current subscription page lists AI Plus in more than 160 countries and territories, but availability of individual features can differ by location.
Google announced the U.S. plan at $7.99 per month with 200GB of storage and a temporary offer of 50% off for the first two months. Those are launch details, not the current U.S. offer. Google’s current U.S. subscription page listed $4.99 per month and 400GB on August 18, 2026. Google’s launch announcement and current subscription page show the distinct terms.

What the current U.S. plan includes
Google’s U.S. plan page listed these AI Plus benefits on August 18, 2026:
- More Gemini usage: 2x higher usage access than the free tier, with more access to features including video generation and Daily Brief.
- Creative tools: 200 Google Flow credits and more access to Nano Banana in Google Search.
- Research: Expanded NotebookLM access, including more Audio Overviews and notebooks.
- Google app integrations: Gemini in Gmail, Vids, and other Google apps, plus early access to Gemini in Chrome.
- Storage: 400GB shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.
Google’s January launch announcement described a different package, including Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app, Flow filmmaking tools, NotebookLM, 200GB of storage, and sharing benefits with up to five additional family members. It also said existing Google One Premium 2TB subscribers in newly added markets would receive AI Plus benefits automatically. Those were launch terms; check your account’s membership page and the current checkout terms before relying on them. Google’s current page should guide decisions about present benefits.

How Plus compares with Free, Pro, and Ultra
The following U.S. prices and plan details were shown on Google’s subscription page on August 18, 2026. “Standard” and higher usage labels are access comparisons, not guaranteed prompt counts.
| Plan | U.S. price shown | Gemini usage access | Storage | Flow credits | Practical distinction |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Standard limits | 15GB | Limited access | Basic access; specific feature access can vary. |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99/month | 2x standard | 400GB | 200 | Entry-level paid bundle with Google integrations and more AI access. |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | 4x standard | 5TB | 1,000 | Higher usage access and more storage, with broader advanced-feature access. |
| Google AI Ultra | Starts at $99.99/month; a $199.99/month tier was also displayed | 5x or 20x Pro, depending on tier | Starts at 20TB | 10,000 or 25,000 | Highest access and limits among these Google plans. |
Google lists more extensive research and model access at higher tiers, but the exact features are subject to availability and can change. Plan details may vary by country, language, platform, age, account type, and product tier. See Google’s U.S. plan comparison for the current offer.
Usage limits are not fixed prompt quotas
Google describes Plus as offering 2x higher usage access than the free tier, not a promise of exactly twice as many prompts each day. Limits are compute-based and can vary with prompt complexity, feature used, chat length, demand, testing, and availability. Google says limits refresh every five hours until a weekly limit is reached; intensive tasks such as long chats, large files, advanced reasoning, or image and video generation may use access more quickly.
Google’s support page lists access for AI Plus to Gemini 3 Flash-Lite, Gemini 3 Flash, and Gemini 3 Pro, and gives Plus a 128,000-token context window. For comparison, the page lists 32,000 tokens for free and 1 million for Pro and Ultra. Google cautions that model names, versions, and availability can change, so these are not permanent guarantees. Consult Google’s Gemini plan and usage documentation for current limits and model details.

Check storage and account terms before subscribing
The 400GB is shared storage, not a separate allotment for each Google service: Drive files, Gmail messages and attachments, and Google Photos content use the same pool. If you already pay for Google One, review your current membership before upgrading. A change may replace or alter the existing storage plan rather than simply adding another 400GB.
Google’s launch announcement said Plus benefits could be shared with up to five additional family members. Because sharing terms may change, confirm the current checkout and membership terms. Feature access can also differ for family members based on age, country, language, account type, or product availability.

Google says AI plans are for personal Google Accounts. In most countries, users generally need to be at least 13 or meet the applicable local minimum age; in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, the stated minimum is 18 for Gemini Apps with a Google AI plan. Some features have additional age restrictions. Work and school accounts have separate rules, so a personal Gmail account and a Google Workspace account may not show the same plan or features. Google’s support documentation has the account and eligibility details.
Who is likely to get value from AI Plus?
It may make sense if you already use Google services
- You regularly use Drive, Gmail, Photos, or NotebookLM and can use the shared storage.
- You want more Gemini access than the free tier provides but do not need Pro-level limits.
- You expect to use Google’s AI tools across apps, research, image or video creation, and Search.
- You can use the family-sharing benefits if they remain part of the terms offered to your account.
Free or another plan may be a better fit
- You rarely use Gemini or Google’s AI creative and research tools.
- You already have enough storage elsewhere or would be paying mainly for AI access without a clear use for the bundled storage.
- You need the highest usage ceilings, a longer context window, advanced coding, or intensive research; compare Pro or Ultra instead.
- You need predictable daily prompt quotas. Google’s usage limits are dynamic, not a fixed allowance.
- You depend on a particular model or feature that may not be available for your country, language, age, platform, or account type.
- You already pay for Pro or Ultra and would give up benefits you rely on by downgrading.
For a lower-cost competing AI subscription, TechCrunch described ChatGPT Go as an $8-per-month U.S. option at the time of Google AI Plus’s January 2026 launch. That is historical pricing, not a confirmed August 2026 offer; check ChatGPT’s current signup page. Unlike AI Plus, its comparison value here is as an AI subscription without Google’s bundled Drive, Gmail, Photos, and NotebookLM storage ecosystem.
Quick Recap
How to check your price and subscribe
- Open Google’s subscription page and select the plan offered for your location and account.
- Before checkout, verify the recurring price after any promotion, the storage amount, and which features are available to you. Do not assume the launch-day 50%-off offer is still active.
- If you already have Google One, open your account’s “Manage membership” page and check what happens to your current storage plan before switching or cancelling.
- Review the renewal and cancellation terms. Google says you can cancel anytime, but generally does not refund partial billing periods except where required by law.
