Google AI Plus is now available in more than 160 countries and territories, but the major expansion happened on January 27, 2026—not just recently. In the U.S., Google’s current page lists the plan at $4.99 per month, including 400 GB of storage and expanded access to Gemini features.
The catch is that AI Plus is not unlimited access to Google’s most powerful AI. It is an entry-level Google ecosystem bundle with usage limits that vary by model, feature, prompt complexity, demand, and region.

What Google AI Plus actually is
The official name is Google AI Plus, not “Gemini AI Plus.” Gemini is one of the services included in the subscription.

Where is Google AI Plus available?
Google says AI Plus is available in more than 160 countries and territories. The final major expansion announced on January 27, 2026, added 35 countries and territories, including the United States.
However, “available” does not mean that every subscriber receives the same plan. Prices, supported languages, app integrations, video features, age requirements, and bundled services can vary by market. Google’s announcement also identified certain features, such as Daily Brief, AI Inbox, and selected Chrome or Photos capabilities, as limited by geography or rollout.

What does it cost?
As of the latest cited U.S. pricing information from August 2026, Google lists:
| Plan | U.S. price shown | Storage | Gemini access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 15 GB | Standard access |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 per month | 400 GB | About 2× the free-tier access |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 per month | 5 TB | About 4× the free-tier access |
| Google AI Ultra | From $99.99 per month | Plan-dependent | Higher Pro-level access, depending on tier |
Prices may change and are not necessarily the same outside the U.S. The January 2026 expansion announcement listed an earlier U.S. price of $7.99 per month, with a temporary introductory discount. That is historical pricing; Google’s current U.S. page lists $4.99 per month.

The catch: AI Plus does not provide unlimited Gemini access
The most important limitation is the usage allowance. Google describes Gemini limits as compute-based, rather than promising one universal number of prompts per day.
Your available usage can depend on:
- The model you select
- The complexity and length of your prompts
- The length of the conversation
- Whether you upload large files
- Whether you use Deep Research, coding, image, or video features
- Current demand and Google’s available capacity
A short text question may use considerably less capacity than a video-generation request, a long-document analysis, or an advanced reasoning task. As a result, “2× the free tier” should not be interpreted as a fixed promise of twice as many identical prompts.
Google says limits can change, refresh periodically, and become stricter during periods of high demand. After reaching a limit, a user may need to wait for access to refresh, switch to a smaller or faster model, upgrade, or use paid top-up credits where that option is supported. Google explains the current restrictions in its Gemini usage-limits documentation.
AI Plus versus Free and Pro
The practical differences matter more than the plan names:
| Feature | Free | Google AI Plus | Google AI Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly U.S. price shown | $0 | $4.99 | $19.99 |
| Gemini usage access | Standard | About 2× free-tier access | About 4× free-tier access |
| Storage | 15 GB | 400 GB | 5 TB |
| Flow credits | Limited or feature-dependent | 200 | 1,000 |
| NotebookLM | Standard access | Expanded access | More expanded access |
| Google-app integrations | Limited or feature-dependent | Included for supported apps | Included with higher access |
| Advanced models and tools | More limited | More access than free, below Pro | Higher access and additional tools |
AI Pro also offers more storage, higher access to advanced models, more Flow credits, and expanded AI Studio and coding limits. AI Ultra is aimed at high-volume professional, developer, and advanced creative workflows rather than ordinary household use.

Who is Google AI Plus best for?
It may be a good fit if you:
- Use Gemini regularly but not at high volume
- Already need more Google Photos, Drive, or Gmail storage
- Want NotebookLM for studying, research, or writing
- Would use occasional Flow or video-generation features
- Want Gemini integrated into supported Google apps
- Find Google AI Pro too expensive
- Can accept changing limits and regional differences
It may be a poor fit if you:
- Need predictable, high-volume access every day
- Frequently generate video or run demanding research workflows
- Require Google’s highest available reasoning or coding limits
- Do not use Google storage or Google apps
- Need a subscription whose value comes almost entirely from chatbot access
- Live in a market where the advertised features are unavailable
Is the $4.99 price actually a good deal?
For a chatbot alone, the answer depends on how often you use it. Someone who asks occasional questions, brainstorms, or edits short pieces of writing may be adequately served by the free Gemini tier. Paying for AI Plus makes more sense when the subscription replaces a storage purchase or unlocks tools you will use regularly.
Think of the value in four parts:
- AI access: You receive more usage than the free tier, but not unlimited or Pro-level access.
- Storage: The U.S. offer includes 400 GB, which may be valuable to people with large Google Photos or Drive libraries.
- Productivity: NotebookLM and Gemini integrations can be more useful than a standalone chatbot for students, writers, and Google-app users.
- Creative tools: Flow credits and selected video or image features add value for occasional creators, but heavy users may exhaust access quickly.
The central question is not “How many prompts do I get?” Google does not publish one universal prompt quota. Ask instead whether your normal workload fits a moderate-use plan and whether the storage and Google-app benefits matter to you.

Choose the free tier if:
You ask occasional questions, do not need extra storage, and can tolerate standard limits.
Choose Google AI Plus if:
You want an inexpensive upgrade, use Google storage or apps, and need moderate Gemini access plus benefits such as NotebookLM or Flow.

Choose Google AI Pro if:
You use Gemini heavily, need higher limits or advanced-model access, want substantially more storage, or rely on AI Studio, coding tools, or Flow more intensively.
Consider Google AI Ultra only if:
You are a professional developer, technical lead, advanced creator, or other power user who can justify paying $99.99 to $199.99 per month for the highest available usage tiers and premium features.
What to check before subscribing
- Confirm the price and storage shown for your country.
- Check whether the specific Gemini, Flow, NotebookLM, Gmail, Docs, Vids, Chrome, or Photos features you want are available in your region.
- Review Google’s current usage-limit documentation.
- Decide whether 400 GB of storage has value for your household.
- Check whether family sharing is supported and which benefits actually transfer to family members.
- Do not assume that today’s model names, credits, or experimental features are permanent.
Google’s AI plans overview provides additional information about storage and plan benefits, while the usage-limits page explains why access can vary.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBottom line
Google AI Plus is best understood as a budget Google ecosystem subscription, not a cheap replacement for unlimited access to Google’s strongest AI models. At the current U.S. price of $4.99 per month, it can be worthwhile for moderate Gemini users who also want 400 GB of storage, NotebookLM, Flow credits, and Google-app integrations.
If you only want occasional AI answers, stay with the free tier. If you routinely use advanced models, coding, research, or video tools, AI Plus’s variable limits may become frustrating quickly—and Google AI Pro is the more appropriate upgrade.
