What was distinctive about the shop?
Local artist Yani Mengoni hand-painted a mural across two interior walls, covering 45 square metres, according to PerthNow. It depicts Leederville places including Luna Cinemas and The Leederville Hotel. Mengoni said: “This is my first mural, the largest I’ve ever illustrated on a wall,” and described one goal as capturing “the character and personality of Leederville and celebrat[ing] local stories.” The report includes her comments and the mural details.
Good Sammy CEO Kane Blackman linked the artwork to the organisation’s local identity and social purpose, saying it reflected “our commitment to a sense of place and our important social mission.”
