The figure comes from MCX October 2026 gold futures reported at ₹1,52,171 per 10 grams on 18 September. The latest MCX market-activity snapshot available here is dated 9 October, so check a live quote before treating any figure or technical level as current.
What the dated prices show
These figures refer to different instruments and dates. An MCX futures contract is not the same as an indicative bullion rate or the price a customer pays for jewellery.

Can gold reach ₹1.52 lakh?
It depends on which price you mean. The October futures quote was already above ₹1.52 lakh on 18 September, but that observation does not establish the price of a later contract, a current MCX quote, an international spot price, or a retail purchase on 12 October. The 9 October MCX snapshot puts December gold futures at ₹151,503, but the available evidence does not verify a 12 October price or indicate whether gold will rise from that level.

- ✔️Obverse: Lady Liberty holding a torch with an olive branch.
- ✔️Reverse: The Type 1 reverse, used from 1986-2021, shows a male bald eagle in flight carrying an olive branch to his nest, where a female awaits with her young. The Type 2 reverse, introduced in 2021, shows a bold close-up portrait of an eagle.
- ✔️Each Gold Eagle is a sovereign monetized bullion coin fully guaranteed by the U.S. Mint.
For context, the World Gold Council reported that the LBMA Gold Price PM rose 13% in August 2026 to US$4,386 per ounce. It also reported a 12% increase in domestic gold to ₹158,854 per 10g that month. In September, prices fell 3.9% internationally and 4.6% domestically through the period covered by the Council’s report. Those monthly moves show how quickly the market can change; they are not a price target for October.
Key levels: historical reference, not a current trading map
The Economic Times reported the following MCX levels on 18 September, attributing them to Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvi Finmart. They describe that session and should not be used as live support or resistance on 12 October without an updated chart and quote.

What could move Indian gold and silver
Dollar and interest rates
MCX identifies dollar and interest-rate movements and macroeconomic events as gold-market influences. The Economic Times’ 18 September commentary also highlighted the dollar, crude oil, global rate expectations and geopolitical developments as near-term factors. These can change the direction or strength of a move; none guarantees that gold will reach a particular rupee level.

Domestic demand, currency and supply
Indian prices reflect more than the international gold price: local-currency movements and domestic market conditions matter too. MCX also identifies hedging interest, above-ground supply, and Indian marriage and harvest seasonality among influences on the market.
The World Gold Council said domestic gold traded nearly 2% below import parity as of 11 September 2026, with a discount of US$78 per ounce. Its report cited local supply, exchange of old gold and unofficial supply in market feedback. That dated discount is evidence of a local-market condition at that time, not a standing discount or a forecast.

Investment flows and trading activity
In August 2026, Indian gold ETF inflows rose 67% month over month to INR25.97bn (US$272mn), and holdings increased by 1.6 tonnes to 121.3 tonnes, according to the World Gold Council. On MCX, average daily gold futures turnover rose 38% month over month to INR295bn (US$3.1bn), while average daily volume rose 27% to 19 tonnes. The Council said both turnover and volume were still 48% below their January peak. These are August activity measures, not evidence of a guaranteed future price move.
How to check a quote without mixing up prices
- Identify the instrument: distinguish spot, a named MCX futures contract and a bullion benchmark from a retailer’s jewellery quote.
- Record the contract and timestamp: futures prices depend on delivery month, and a quote from 9 October is not a quote for 12 October.
- Check the unit and purity: note whether the figure is per gram, 10g, kilogram or troy ounce, and whether a retail gold rate is for 999, 22K or another purity.
- Separate the bill from the benchmark: IBJA’s displayed indicative rates exclude 3% GST and making charges; a finished jewellery bill includes costs beyond the quoted metal rate.
- Refresh technical levels: support and resistance depend on the instrument and session. The levels above are dated 18 September, not an updated map.
For a like-for-like gold and silver comparison, keep instrument, delivery month, unit, location, timestamp and tax or charge treatment explicit. A per-kilogram silver futures quote and a per-10-gram gold futures quote cannot be compared as though they were the same measure.
