Giving Tuesday Is on 2 December: What to Know for 2025 and 2026

GivingTuesday’s date shifts each year: it was December 2 in 2025 and is December 1 in 2026. Participation can mean money, time, skills, goods, advocacy, or kindness.

December 2 was GivingTuesday in 2025. In 2026, the annual observance falls on December 1, according to GivingTuesday’s U.S. page and its participation page. The date changes each year, so check the year before planning a gift or campaign. GivingTuesday is a movement for generosity—not just a day for financial donations.

What GivingTuesday is—and what it is not

GivingTuesday is an annual focal point for generosity and community action. People can participate by donating money, volunteering, sharing skills or goods, advocating for a cause, or doing acts of kindness. The official site frames participation with two practical questions: “What can I give?” and “How can I help?” (GivingTuesday).

It is not a central donation processor. GivingTuesday says it does not collect donations and distribute them to participating nonprofits, and it does not maintain a comprehensive list of participating charities. As its FAQ puts it, “There isn’t a list of nonprofits that are participating in GivingTuesday.” Choose a cause or group and use its own donation page or instructions (official FAQ).

Ways to take part

Choose an action that fits your budget, time, skills, and community. Giving money is one option, not a requirement.

  • What do you support? Tuesday is the day that you give to your favorite charity. Be it homelessness, battered women, anti-bullying, or Autism Awareness, this is the day you give it.
  • Wear this tee and show that you took part in a very important Tuesday this December 1st. This is the perfect gifts for fathers day, Mother's Day, birthday, holiday, Christmas, or just for that someone special in your life.
  • Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
  • Give money: Donate through the recipient organization’s own channel. Check who receives the funds, whether the donation platform charges a fee, and whether the gift is tax-deductible under the rules that apply to you.
  • Give time: Ask a local nonprofit or community group about volunteer roles and follow its instructions.
  • Share skills or goods: Offer relevant expertise or items the organization has requested rather than assuming what it needs.
  • Use your voice: Share reliable information, advocate for a cause, or invite others to support a community effort.
  • Take a local action: Join a community activity or perform an act of kindness that responds to a real need.

GivingTuesday itself does not make a gift tax-deductible. The recipient’s status and local law matter. Its FAQ advises U.S. groups that are not registered nonprofits to make clear when gifts are not tax-deductible; people and organizations elsewhere should follow their local fundraising rules (official FAQ).

How nonprofits and community organizers can participate

GivingTuesday says participation is free and does not require formal registration or a particular platform. An organizer can use an existing website, campaign page, or social channels. The FAQ states, “Your nonprofit is not required to use any specific fundraising platform or technology product in order to participate.” A fundraising provider may still charge its own fees; those are set by the provider, not by GivingTuesday (official FAQ).

What the U.S. participation figures show

GivingTuesday estimated that U.S. donations reached $4 billion in 2025, compared with an estimated $3.6 billion in 2024. It also attributed 11.1 million U.S. volunteers to 2025, compared with 9.2 million in 2024. The Associated Press reported these figures on December 3, 2025, attributing them to GivingTuesday; they are estimates, not audited totals (Associated Press report).

These national figures provide context, not a guarantee of what any one organization will raise or how many people it will reach. For an individual donor, the useful question is whether a particular organization and its work are a good fit—not whether a national total is large.
