Buyers may still be able to use PayPal to pay for an eBay order, but that is a checkout option—not a way for the seller to receive their proceeds.
Can you still use PayPal to get paid on eBay?
No, according to eBay’s US seller payout guidance. eBay states, “You can’t use a savings account or a PayPal account to receive payouts.” Sellers instead need to link an eligible checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card. See eBay’s guidance on getting paid for items sold.
This applies to the US seller arrangements described by eBay. Payout rules can vary by marketplace, so sellers outside the US should check the Payments settings and terms for their own country.
Can buyers still pay with PayPal on eBay?
Yes, eBay’s buyer help says customers with PayPal can use it to pay for items on eBay. Buyer checkout and seller payouts are separate parts of the transaction: a buyer can pay using PayPal without eBay sending the seller’s proceeds to a PayPal account. Check eBay’s buyer payment guidance for details.

How eBay seller payouts work
- Register for managed payments. Sellers must register for eBay to manage payments. eBay describes itself as managing the end-to-end payment process. Its seller registration guidance explains the setup.
- Link an eligible payout destination. In the US guidance, that means a checking account or eligible Visa or Mastercard debit card—not PayPal or a savings account.
- Account for deductions. eBay deducts selling fees and other costs from proceeds before paying out the remaining amount.
- Track the payment. Review funds and payout status in the Payments tab in Seller Hub or in My eBay Payments. eBay’s payout help page describes the available status information.
When will eBay send the money?
There are two timing stages: when proceeds become available and when eBay initiates a payout. eBay says proceeds typically become available one to two days after buyer payment confirmation, unless the transaction is on hold. With daily payouts, eBay typically initiates the payout around two days after payment confirmation. Once eBay sends the funds, bank settlement typically takes another one to three business days.
Weekly, biweekly, or monthly payout schedules change when eBay initiates the transfer. These are typical time frames, not a guaranteed arrival date for an individual sale; the bank’s processing and any account-specific issue can affect timing.

Why might a payout be on hold?
eBay may hold funds while it verifies an account or transaction, confirms delivery, or addresses a buyer dispute or compliance issue. A paid order therefore does not necessarily mean the proceeds are ready to transfer. Check the hold status and expected release date in Seller Hub or My eBay. Adding shipment tracking can help establish delivery. See eBay’s explanation of transaction holds.

Open the Payments tab in Seller Hub or My eBay Payments to see the status of funds and payouts. Distinguish funds that are processing, available, on hold, or already sent: “sent” means eBay initiated the payout, not necessarily that the bank has finished settling it. If the expected release date or status is unclear, use the account-specific details shown there rather than assuming a fixed arrival date.
