Gen.G announced on December 15, 2021, that Arnold Hur would become CEO, moving up from his roles as chief operating officer and co-president. The announcement said outgoing CEO Chris Park would stay on as an adviser focused on sports and education. This is a record of that 2021 leadership change; the sources cited here do not establish who holds the CEO role in October 2026.
When did Arnold Hur become Gen.G CEO?
Gen.G announced Hur’s promotion on December 15, 2021. Before the change, he had served as the organization’s COO since 2019 and was also co-president. Gen.G said he had overseen strategic definition and execution and led its esports team operations.
What happened to Chris Park?
Park left the CEO role but remained with Gen.G as an adviser focused on sports and education, according to the announcement. The change therefore shifted the CEO position to Hur while assigning Park a narrower advisory focus; the release did not describe Park as leaving the organization.
What priorities did Gen.G set out for Hur?
The company said Hur would continue developing its esports training program and community initiatives involving fans and partners. These were priorities stated at the time of the appointment, not reported measures of subsequent results.

Gen.G placed the leadership news in the context of its efforts to grow its international brand and develop business models through partnerships in education, entertainment, and music. It cited McDonald’s, PUMA, and LG UltraGear as examples of brands in that partnership context; the announcement did not say those companies endorsed Hur’s appointment or describe a specific activation by each.
What was Hur’s background?
Before joining Gen.G, Hur was president of Memebox and had worked on travel product and strategy integration at Google, in management consulting at Boston Consulting Group, and in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, according to Gen.G’s announcement. The company also said Memebox had raised more than $196 million. That is Gen.G’s 2021 account of Memebox fundraising, not an independently confirmed total or a company valuation.

GamesBeat’s contemporaneous report adds that Hur joined Gen.G in 2017, when it was called KSV Esports, as its third employee and helped develop its content marketing operation. The report described the organization at that time as operating across Seoul and Santa Monica and having more than 100 team members; those are dated 2021-era details, not current figures.
