Highspot became No. 1 in GeekWire’s Nov. 21, 2024 GeekWire 200 update, while the previous leader, Outreach, fell to No. 7. The ranking covers privately held technology startups in Seattle and the wider Pacific Northwest. It is a time-specific editorial index—not an audited valuation or a measure of which company is best overall.
Who led the GeekWire 200 in the 2024 update?
GeekWire reported that Seattle-based sales enablement company Highspot rose to No. 1. Outreach, which had previously held the top position, ranked No. 7. The changes appeared in GeekWire’s article published Nov. 21, 2024.
GeekWire said Highspot was growing its headcount again after layoffs the prior year and cited the company’s $250 million fundraising in 2022. For Outreach, GeekWire pointed to workforce reductions—including a 9% layoff earlier in November 2024—and the recent departure of its longtime CEO. These are the publication’s reported context for the ranking changes, not independently audited measures of either company’s health. Read GeekWire’s Nov. 21, 2024 update.
What changed elsewhere in the rankings?
The 2024 update also reflected activity across startups at different stages and in different technology sectors. GeekWire highlighted these movements:

- Rec Room climbed 44 positions to No. 12, Statsig rose 40 positions to No. 15, and Zap Energy advanced 65 positions to No. 19.
GeekWire associated the moves with investment, funding, and business developments, including product and partnership news. The ranking included software companies as well as businesses working in areas such as robotics, satellite communications, drones, reusable rockets, and pizza-making systems. Those are examples of companies represented in the list, not consumer product recommendations.
How does GeekWire rank Pacific Northwest startups?
GeekWire describes the GeekWire 200 as a quarterly index of privately held technology startups in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. Its methodology combines public indicators—LinkedIn employee counts, Facebook followers, and Moz domain authority—with editorial judgment from the newsroom. GeekWire says that judgment can account for recent fundraising, layoffs, and its reporting insight into regional startups.
The publication does not provide a formula or disclose weights for those factors. As a result, a position should be read as GeekWire’s editorial ranking based on the signals and reporting it considers, not as a score that can be reproduced from a published calculation. It is also not an audited company valuation or a comprehensive rating of business quality.
Who qualifies for the GeekWire 200?
In its 2024 article, GeekWire said companies that shut down are removed and that companies founded 15 years ago or earlier no longer qualify under its startup parameters. It cited Blue Origin, Hootsuite, and Icertis as examples of former top-ranked names that had aged out.

GeekWire advised startups seeking inclusion to check its broader Startup List; a company absent from that list can submit for consideration. The GeekWire 200 was presented by JPMorganChase. See GeekWire’s GeekWire 200 page.

No. Highspot led the edition announced in November 2024, but GeekWire’s highlights page lists a later update dated Sept. 30, 2026, naming Temporal as No. 1. That update was framed around AI software and advanced machinery for space, energy, and defense. Rankings are tied to their publication dates, so Highspot’s 2024 position should not be presented as the current lead. The highlights page does not, by itself, establish the full current ranking table. Check GeekWire’s highlights page for its dated updates.
