That is an excess of $2,295,874,922 and a reported total reserve rate of 128.58%. These are figures from a dated snapshot, not a statement of Gate.io’s reserves today or proof of its overall financial condition.

Gate.io’s dashboard identifies the latest audit time for these figures as January 17, 2025, at 00:00 UTC. The exchange’s Q1 2025 transparency report also says its coverage included more than 200 digital assets. What a 128.58% reserve ratio means
In this report, the ratio compares disclosed reserve value with customer net balances at the snapshot. A 128.58% ratio means the reported wallet balance was about 1.2858 times the reported customer net balance on that date. The difference between those two reported totals is the $2.296 billion excess shown above.
The percentage is not a guarantee that a customer can withdraw at any future time, nor does it establish that all financial obligations of the company are covered. It describes the relationship between the figures included in this particular snapshot.

How Gate.io says users can verify the disclosure
Gate.io describes its approach as “Merkle Tree + zk-SNARKs.” According to the exchange, hashed account-balance information is organized so users can inspect aggregate asset data and verify whether their own balance is included. Its page also describes checking wallet ownership by transferring a randomly designated amount to addresses designated by the audit company, and offers downloadable data and a local verification program. These are Gate.io’s descriptions of its process. The published figures and method description alone do not show that an individual account proof or local verifier has been independently tested by the reader.

What this snapshot does—and does not—establish
A proof-of-reserves snapshot is bounded evidence about assets and customer balances captured at a particular time. It is useful for assessing the disclosed balance relationship, but it is not equivalent to a comprehensive financial statement. The materials associated with this snapshot do not establish a full review of all company liabilities, off-chain obligations, asset encumbrances, liquidity under stress, or changes after the snapshot date.
The Basel Committee’s cryptoasset framework includes a requirement for independent external audits of reserve assets within its covered framework at least annually. That general framework is not an audit opinion on Gate.io and does not show that this specific snapshot meets the framework’s requirements. Basel Committee framework.

Is Gate.io’s proof of reserves current?
The cited dashboard figures are dated January 17, 2025. Although the page was accessible on October 8, 2026, that does not make the figures current: the snapshot remains nearly 21 months old as of that date. Check the dashboard’s displayed audit time for a newer report before relying on any reserve figure; do not present the January 2025 values as Gate.io’s present-day reserves.

When comparing disclosures from exchanges, use more than the headline ratio. Check the snapshot date and age, which assets and customer balances are in scope, how reserve assets and wallet control were checked, who conducted the work and what procedures they performed, whether users can verify their own balances, and whether the disclosure addresses liabilities beyond the included customer balances. A ratio alone is not a sound basis for ranking exchanges.
