Huawei was named as a key supporting partner. The event’s central corporate announcement was Dr. Han’s outline of a “next-generation crypto exchange” strategy. Gate’s event announcement does not specify Huawei’s precise commercial role or set delivery dates for the strategy.

The celebration was accompanied by a separate sports and networking event, SPORT3 Dubai 2025, held April 29. It included football, badminton, and padel, and was presented as a way to connect crypto, sports, partners, and users. At the main event, the reported program also included a fireside chat between Gate Chief Business Officer Kevin Lee and IBC Group founder and CEO Mario Nawfal, titled “Crypto Influence in 2025: Still a Net Positive?”, plus panels on the next bull market and the practical value of Web3 projects. These activities describe the event’s networking and brand-building role; they are not evidence that Gate’s technology or targets had been independently validated. Gate framed “next-generation” as more than adding features to a conventional spot-and-derivatives exchange. The company described a broader role combining trading, Web3 infrastructure, custody, and access to digital assets, with global adoption and compliance as part of the ambition. Its five capabilities are best read as scale goals and strategic themes, rather than quantified operating commitments: the announcement gave no timetable, technical specifications, or independently audited milestones.

- Billions of users. This implies a platform built to serve a far larger audience than today’s crypto exchanges. Reaching that scale would involve onboarding, support, reliability, security, and legal availability across many markets—not simply registering more accounts.
- Millions of supported tokens. A much wider asset universe could broaden access to blockchain projects, but listings alone do not establish trading quality. Users still need to assess each token’s legitimacy, liquidity, market depth, and potential slippage.
- Trillions in trading activity. This ambition points to capacity for very high volumes across products and markets. The announcement did not define whether the figure refers to a particular period, which products it includes, or a target date.
- Trillions in assets under custody. This calls for custody systems capable of handling assets at enormous scale. A statement of ambition is not a guarantee of individual account safety, nor does it establish how custody risks would be managed.
- Compliance with regulations. Gate presented compliance as a core capability rather than an afterthought. In practice, permissions and product access depend on the relevant legal entity, service, and jurisdiction; a license in one location does not authorize every service everywhere.
How does Gate’s exchange vision extend into an ecosystem?
Gate’s framing reaches beyond buying and selling tokens. The company’s later reporting refers to services and features including Gate Wallet, Launchpad, Gate Alpha, Launchpool, HODLer Airdrop, Simple Earn, institutional services, and other trading tools. Taken together, these illustrate an effort to link exchange access with wallets, token launches, Web3 activity, and investment products. Their presence supports the claim that Gate was broadening its product mix; it does not establish that every feature is available to every customer or that the long-term vision has been achieved. What changed after the anniversary?
Gate introduced the Gate.com brand
On May 19, 2025, Gate announced a new international domain, Gate.com, and a redesigned logo. It described the rebrand as part of its transition toward the next-generation exchange and organized its strategy around technology-driven innovation, global compliance, and ecosystem integration. Use the names with their dates in mind: the anniversary announcement referred to Gate.io, while the company later promoted Gate.com and increasingly used “Gate.” The brand or domain alone does not tell a customer which legal entity provides a service or whether that service is permitted in their location.

Gate reported growth and a large asset base
In its May 2025 transparency material, Gate reported more than 27 million users; its Q2 2025 report later said the figure exceeded 30 million. These are company-reported figures for different reporting periods, not independent confirmations and not evidence that Gate is close to the stated ambition of billions of users. The company’s own pages also showed different cryptocurrency counts—more than 3,600, 3,800, 4,500, and 4,800 at different times. Because these counts vary by date and page scope, none should be treated as a timeless measure of available or liquid markets. Gate published reserve figures, with important limits
Material associated with May 2025 reported total reserves of $10.865 billion, excess reserves of $2.415 billion, and a total reserve ratio of 128.57%. Those are Gate’s published proof-of-reserves figures for that reporting period. Proof of reserves is not the same as a complete financial audit, a guarantee against losses, or proof that every operational risk has been eliminated. Readers assessing an exchange should examine what assets and liabilities a disclosure covers, how often it is updated, and whether an independent assurance provider is involved. The figures do not establish Gate’s current reserves.

What should a prospective Gate user check?
The anniversary strategy is not a reason on its own to open an account or move funds. Before using any centralized exchange, check the specific service and entity available to you, and evaluate the risks that matter for your planned use.

- Jurisdiction and product access: Confirm whether the service is permitted where you live. Spot, futures, margin, Earn, lending, token launches, and Web3 features may have different geographic restrictions. Gate’s user agreement and current product terms are relevant starting points; do not assume a license held by one entity covers another service or country.
- Identity checks and withdrawals: Review KYC requirements, withdrawal limits, processing times, supported networks, and the possibility of compliance reviews before depositing. A token being listed does not mean every withdrawal network is available at all times.
- Trading costs and liquidity: Compare maker and taker fees, spreads, withdrawal charges, derivatives funding costs, and any conditions attached to VIP discounts. Check the order-book depth for the exact trading pair and order size: a broad token catalogue does not guarantee low slippage.
- Custody and security: Decide whether you are comfortable leaving assets with a centralized platform. Review the scope and frequency of proof-of-reserves disclosures and look for account protections such as authenticator-app security, passkeys, withdrawal whitelists, and anti-phishing controls.
- Token and leverage risk: A large listing count can include low-liquidity or highly speculative assets. Futures and margin introduce liquidation and funding-payment risks and may be unsuitable for beginners.
- Records and recovery: Check available account-recovery and support escalation routes, and whether transaction records meet your tax-reporting needs in your jurisdiction. Do not assume promotional rewards are cash or unconditional; eligibility, restrictions, and expiry can apply.
Fees, supported assets, product availability, and account rules can change. Verify current terms directly with Gate before acting, using Gate’s official site rather than relying on dated event material.

Why the announcement matters—and where it stops
The April 2025 event matters as a statement of strategic direction: Gate said it wanted to scale beyond a conventional exchange, and the later Gate.com rebrand and expanding product set show how it began presenting that direction. But the five headline capabilities remain ambitions, not achievements demonstrated by the event. The announcement did not supply a delivery schedule, detailed operating targets, or independent validation of the end-state. For users, the useful measure is execution in the particular market and product they intend to use—not the “next-generation” label.
