COAP 2025 was a portal for viewing and deciding on offers—not an application for admission. Candidates had to apply separately to each institute or PSU. The 2025 offer windows ran from May to July 2025 and have ended; the dates below are historical, not guidance for a later cycle.
What COAP does—and what it does not do
The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) brings participating institutes’ or public-sector undertakings’ offers together so candidates can view them and record a decision. IISc was the coordinating institute for the 2025 cycle. Registration was free, as stated on the IISc COAP 2025 portal.

COAP is not the portal through which you apply for an M.Tech. seat or a PSU job. You must submit a separate application to every institute or PSU you want to be considered by, using that organization’s application process. Each organization selects candidates under its own rules and may not issue an offer in every COAP round. COAP does not publish a universal rank list or program cutoff; it displays offers made by participating organizations.
Who could register for COAP 2025?
The official 2025 eligibility information specified Indian nationality and a valid GATE score from 2023, 2024 or 2025. The FAQ also described these cases:
#1 Best Overall
- Foreign nationals did not need to register at COAP.
- IIT graduates with a B.Tech. degree and a CGPA of at least 8.0 on a 10-point scale could apply directly to institutes and, according to the FAQ, should not register at COAP.
- Sponsored or defence-sponsored candidates and QIP candidates with a valid GATE score could register under the FAQ’s stated rules.
These are COAP 2025 rules, not a guarantee of eligibility for a later cycle or a particular program. Institutes set their own admission criteria, so candidates also needed to check each institute’s admission notice. See the COAP 2025 FAQ and portal for the cycle’s official guidance.
How COAP 2025 registration worked
Registration was not complete merely because a candidate entered the form. Candidates had to complete their first login and click SUBMIT to finalize registration. The official registration procedure listed the details to provide, and the FAQ said that COAP registration required no document upload or hard-copy submission.
- Enter your name, GATE registration number or numbers, valid score or scores, date of birth, email address and mobile number.
- Receive login details by email and SMS, then sign in for the first time.
- Review and submit the registration by clicking SUBMIT.
If you had valid scores in multiple GATE papers, enter them as applicable. For multiple valid scores in the same paper, the FAQ recommended registering with the highest score and adding the other valid scores during the first login. Registration at COAP did not replace any separate institute or PSU application.

What the offer choices meant
In the main rounds, candidates could select only one offer per round. The options available depended on the round:
Accept and Freeze
Accept the selected offer and end consideration for later COAP offers. After choosing it, complete the separate admission or joining steps and meet the deadlines set by the institute or organization. If the official offer letter does not arrive, COAP’s important instructions direct candidates to contact the institute.
Retain and Wait
Keep one selected offer while remaining eligible for higher preferences in later rounds, subject to vacancies and the institute’s merit process. You had to select this option again in each eligible round; a previous retention did not carry forward automatically. The same institute-and-program offer could be retained at most twice. If a higher-preference offer was made, the earlier retained offer might no longer appear.
Rank #3
Choosing Retain and Wait for one offer meant that other offers in that round were treated as rejected. Retention did not guarantee an upgrade.

Reject the selected offer or offers as the round allowed. A rejected offer would not be reconsidered, although higher preferences could still be considered later if they had been indicated and the institute’s conditions allowed it. The decisive rounds used the label Reject, rather than Reject and Wait.
If you did not log in, decide and submit during a round, that round’s offers were treated as rejected—including an offer retained earlier. Missing the decision window was not a way to keep an offer open.

Round 5 was designated the decisive round. Rounds 6–10 were independent decisive rounds, and institutes were not required to issue offers in every window. This schedule describes only the 2025 cycle; use the official schedule for the cycle in which you are applying.
How to weigh an offer before choosing
COAP did not rank programs for candidates or guarantee that waiting would produce a better offer. Before selecting an option, consider the specific program and institute, the offer’s conditions, and the organization’s separate admission or joining deadlines. Then weigh those against the consequence of freezing now versus waiting for a possible higher preference. An upgrade depends on vacancies and the institute’s own merit process, so it is uncertain.

What to do after accepting
COAP records the offer decision; it does not handle institute joining formalities, fee refunds or withdrawal processing. After accepting and freezing, follow the relevant institute’s or organization’s offer letter and instructions, including its deadlines. For questions about an offer letter or refund, contact that organization and consult its policy; COAP guidance does not establish one universal refund rule or common joining deadline.
Which organizations participated?
Use the specific COAP 2025 participant list and each organization’s own admission announcement to confirm participation in that cycle. IISc’s portal says that, over the years, 24 institutes and one PSU (NPCIL) had participated; that historical aggregate is not a confirmed participant count for COAP 2025.
