Gaming venture-capital funding reached $594 million in Q1 2024, a 94% increase from Q4 2023, according to Konvoy Ventures. That is a sharp quarterly rise in gaming VC investment—not proof by itself of a lasting recovery across the industry.
What the 94% increase measures
Konvoy’s Q1 2024 Gaming Industry Report puts gaming venture-capital funding at $594 million, up 94% from the previous quarter. GamesBeat reported Q4 2023 funding of $319 million, the comparison amount behind the headline.
The percentage describes the change in funding dollars from Q4 2023 to Q1 2024. It is not a measure of gaming-company revenue, public-market performance, or all private investment in gaming.
Funding rose, and deal count rose too
Konvoy counted 124 deals in Q1 2024, a 28% quarter-over-quarter increase. Deal count and funding dollars are different measures: the 94% figure applies to dollars, while 28% applies to the number of deals.

Large transactions provide context, not a market-wide verdict
GamesBeat’s April 12, 2024 coverage highlighted Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games, along with $110 million for Build A Rocket Boy and $100 million for Second Dinner. These transactions help explain the quarter’s aggregate total, but a few large rounds do not establish that funding improved equally across companies or segments.

No. The figures show a strong one-quarter increase, but a single quarter cannot establish a durable trend or describe the market today. Comparisons with other reports also require care: reports may differ in what they count as gaming VC, how they treat undisclosed deals, and whether they compare funding dollars or deal counts.

Konvoy managing partner Josh Chapman told GamesBeat, “The investment climate around gaming has now turned a corner. We believe the worst of this correction cycle is behind us and 2024 and 2025 will showcase a healthy VC investment pace, a few selective M&A events, notable IPOs next year, and continued secular growth for the industry,” as quoted in its April 12, 2024 article. That was his forecast at the time, not evidence that the predicted funding pace, M&A activity, or IPOs occurred.
