The company’s Retro page has a locator and category links for classic Nintendo, PlayStation, Sega and Xbox systems, but it does not publish a total store count or guarantee that a listed system is in stock at any particular location. Search by ZIP code and confirm local availability before making a trip.
What GameStop’s Retro offering is
On August 28, 2024, GameStop announced a Retro-branded offering at select locations, according to Engadget’s report on the company’s post on X. The announcement described physical classic consoles, discs and cartridges from Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and Sega platforms. It was a selective retail offering—not an announcement that every GameStop store would become a retro store.
GameStop’s current Retro page presents a ZIP-code and radius locator alongside shopping categories. The page is useful for finding a nearby participating location, but its categories should not be read as a live inventory list for every store.
How to find a Retro location near you
- Open GameStop’s Retro page.
- Enter your ZIP code in the location search and choose a search radius.
- Review the results for a Retro-designated location in your area.
- Check the specific store’s current listings or contact the store to verify the system, game, condition and availability you want before traveling.
The official page does not state how many Retro locations exist nationwide, and the company filings discussed below do not supply a count. The locator is therefore the best source for a reader’s local search; this information does not establish a complete national list.

Which retro systems appear on GameStop’s site?
The current Retro page links to categories across these console and handheld families:
- Nintendo: NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 2DS and 3DS.
- PlayStation: PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PS Vita and PSP.
- Sega: Genesis, Saturn and Dreamcast.
- Xbox: Xbox and Xbox 360.
These are category links, not a promise that every platform—or any particular title, console or accessory—is available at a given store. The site’s visible categories also extend beyond the systems listed in the 2024 announcement report, so the announcement-era list should not be treated as a current stock roster.

Why store participation and availability need local checking
GameStop’s FY2025 Form 10-K says the company closed 727 U.S. stores during that fiscal year. That figure describes the broader retail network; it does not say how many Retro locations opened, closed or remained active. At the time of the filing, GameStop said it did not anticipate significant U.S. store closures in FY2026, a forward-looking statement made at that time rather than a guarantee about current conditions. See the FY2025 Form 10-K.
The same filing describes a trade-in program through which customers can exchange pre-owned gaming and other products for cash or credit. GameStop says trade-ins help it offer previous-generation platforms and related games; its refurbishment centers can test, repair, sanitize, repackage and resell used items. That provides context for how pre-owned products can enter the business, but it does not establish what a specific Retro store has on hand or the condition of a particular item.

What company sales figures do—and do not—show
In its Form 10-Q for the three months ended August 1, 2026, GameStop reported that collectibles represented 45.1% of company net sales and video games represented 33.3%. In the year-earlier quarter, the respective shares were 23.4% and 50.9%. The company attributed the change primarily to collectible growth and lower video game sales in a period without the prior-year Nintendo Switch 2 launch. These are company-wide figures, not sales or profitability data for Retro locations. The Form 10-Q does not isolate the Retro initiative.
How to shop without assuming a category means stock
- For a particular game or system: use the local locator, then verify that exact item with the store. A category page alone does not confirm local stock.
- For pre-owned hardware: ask about the item’s condition and what is included before buying; the filing describes refurbishment practices generally, not the history or condition of an individual product.
- For alternatives: original pre-owned hardware and reproduction hardware are different options. Confirm which type a listing refers to rather than assuming a category label identifies it.
GameStop’s 2019 announcement about experimental physical-store concepts described a separate historical plan, including a concept intended to sell retro software and hardware in a select market. It should not be conflated with the 2024 Retro-branded announcement. The company’s July 15, 2019 release quoted then-Chief Customer Officer Frank Hamlin describing a broader effort to develop engaging store experiences; it was not a named-person explanation of the 2024 rollout.
