The newly formed organization sits within Gallagher Bassett Digital and is intended to apply AI across the business, improve client experience and support growth. The reports describe a mandate, not results: they do not disclose a specific technology, budget, launch schedule or performance target.
What Gallagher Bassett’s AI Solutions unit is meant to do
Claims Journal and Risk & Insurance describe AI Solutions as a new organization within Gallagher Bassett Digital. Its stated ambition is to translate AI capabilities into changes to client experience and the company’s business lines, while creating opportunities for growth. Risk & Insurance also characterizes the remit as scaling proven initiatives.
These are goals attributed to the appointment coverage, not evidence that the new group has already delivered improvements. The reports do not specify which business lines or client processes will be addressed first.
What Frank Caruana brings to the role
Claims Journal reports that Caruana led claims automation, fraud and transformation work at Allianz Partners, and earlier spent several years at GEICO leading claims technology transformation. Risk & Insurance describes his Allianz Partners work as global and says digital customer engagement expanded significantly during his GEICO tenure. These career details are reported by the trade publications; the appointment coverage does not include a direct biography from Gallagher Bassett.

How the appointment relates to Gallagher Bassett’s earlier AI work
Gallagher Bassett Chief Digital Officer Joe Powell has previously described generative AI uses for claims professionals, including summarizing claims and documents and answering questions about claim materials. In a company article, Powell wrote: “By leveraging GB’s Gen AI to rapidly summarize claims and documents or answer questions quickly, the possibilities to positively impact the day-to-day work of our claims professionals are tremendous.” The article also discusses the potential for AI tools to work together.
That company-authored account offers context about Gallagher Bassett’s previously described direction, but the appointment reports do not say whether Caruana’s unit will own, expand or otherwise oversee those initiatives. Separately, a March 11, 2025 Gallagher Bassett article quoted Manan Sagar, then identified as CEO for EMEA & Asia, discussing investment in AI and data analytics in that region and the continuing importance of human expertise. That is regional, historical context—not a current statement of Caruana’s remit.

What has not been announced
The September 30 and October 1 appointment reports do not identify:
- The AI platforms, vendors or external technology partners the group may use.
- Whether it will build, buy or integrate tools.
- The unit’s budget, staffing level or implementation timetable.
- Which existing AI initiatives it will oversee or when employees or clients may see changes.
- Targets or measured results for speed, accuracy, savings, adoption or client outcomes.
Accordingly, the appointment is best understood as an organizational move and a stated plan to apply AI—not as an announcement of a launched product, a specific deployment or proven business impact.
