Short answer: A U.S. Galaxy Z Flip6 can show up below $500, but the clearest verified example is a restored phone—not a brand-new one. As of August 18, 2026, no current, in-stock, unlocked, factory-new Flip6 under $500 is established here. Samsung’s December 2025 U.S. price list put the unlocked 256GB model at $1,099.99 and marked it end of life (EOL), so any new-unit deal needs to be confirmed on a live retailer listing.
What the under-$500 listing actually offers
Walmart’s listing for a 256GB unlocked Galaxy Z Flip6, model SM-F741U, showed color-dependent prices of $309 to $359.99 when checked. The condition is explicitly “Restored: Good”, and the listed variants were out of stock. That is evidence that restored units have been listed below $500—not that a brand-new phone is currently available at that price.
Check the Walmart listing for any change in price, seller, condition, and stock before buying. A low search-result price may not match the product page after you select a color or seller.
Samsung’s December 2025 U.S. MSRP file lists the unlocked 256GB Flip6 at $1,099.99 and marks it EOL. EOL does not prove that every remaining new unit has disappeared, but it does mean a new sub-$500 offer should be verified rather than inferred from a headline or an old promotion. The MSRP file is not a live sale price.

How to tell “new” from a cheaper alternative
| Listing type | What it means | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| New | Factory-new retail device, not previously sold or activated. | Condition is stated as new, seller is identified, and the warranty is clear. |
| Open-box | Opened or returned; it may or may not have been activated. | Activation history, included accessories, return window, and warranty. |
| Restored or refurbished | Previously owned or returned and inspected or repaired. | Battery and screen condition, hinge function, return policy, and who backs the warranty. |
| Certified pre-owned | A used phone certified by a manufacturer or carrier program. | Which program certified it and what its warranty covers. |
| Carrier promotion | A promotional price that may depend on activation, financing, a new line, port-in, or bill credits. | Required plan, credit schedule, lock status, and cost if you leave early. |
| Trade-in price | A net price after credit for a phone you surrender. | The trade-in value, eligibility rules, and risk of the credit being reversed. |
“Under $500” can mean the amount charged today, a price after an instant trade-in, or a total reached only after future carrier credits. Those are different offers. If a deal requires you to hand over a valuable phone or keep an expensive plan for months, the advertised amount is not the same as an unconditional $500 purchase price.
What to check before accepting a trade-in or carrier deal
Trade-in credits
Samsung’s trade-in terms say the old device generally must be sent within 15 days of receiving the qualifying purchase. It must meet the stated eligibility rules, including powering on, holding a charge, having a functioning display, being free of disallowed damage, being removed from blacklists, and having its data reset and software locks disabled. Samsung says a credit can be charged back if the device is late or fails inspection; in some inspection cases, the chargeback is reduced by $25. Check the terms attached to the specific offer, since eligibility and consequences depend on those terms.

Carrier bill credits and fees
For a carrier offer, read the full terms for required service, installment length, bill-credit timing, activation or upgrade charges, and what happens if you cancel or move your number. Add sales tax and shipping to the checkout cost. A lower monthly device payment does not establish that the phone costs less than $500 overall.
What you get with the Galaxy Z Flip6
The Flip6 is a compact foldable, not a conventional phone with a discounted price. Samsung’s specification sheet lists a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover display, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The listed cameras are 50MP rear and 10MP front, and the battery is 4,000mAh. FlexCam and FlexWindow features use the folding form factor for hands-free framing and selected interactions on the cover screen.
The sheet also says a 25W charger is sold separately. Samsung described Galaxy AI features as free through the end of 2025 on supported devices; that dated statement does not establish their terms in 2026.

New, unlocked, and properly warrantied
If a live retailer page shows a factory-new U.S. model below $500 with no required trade-in or carrier commitment, a clear warranty, and stock available, that would be a strong price for a foldable. Verify the exact storage and model, the seller, and the total at checkout; the current evidence does not confirm such an offer.
Restored or refurbished
A restored Flip6 may suit a buyer who values the folding design and accepts condition and warranty uncertainty. For a foldable, check the inner display, hinge, battery, and whether the original manufacturer or only the seller provides coverage. The Walmart example was out of stock when checked, so it is a price signal rather than a buy-now recommendation.

When a conventional phone is a better fit
If battery endurance, camera consistency, durability, or lower repair exposure matter more than folding into a pocket-sized shape, compare conventional phones at the same budget. Samsung’s December 2025 U.S. MSRP list gives the Galaxy A36 5G a $399.99 MSRP and the Galaxy A56 5G a $499.99 MSRP; those figures are listed MSRPs, not proof of current sale prices. Neither offers a foldable design.
Quick Recap
Risks to weigh before checkout
- Repair exposure: A foldable adds a hinge and a flexible inner display, so a low purchase price does not by itself make repair risk low. Check warranty exclusions and repair pricing before relying on the phone long term.
- Battery and condition: For used or restored stock, confirm battery-health disclosures and test both displays and the hinge during the return window.
- Network and lock status: Check the exact SKU and carrier compatibility. Best Buy’s page for the 256GB unlocked model lists compatibility with major U.S. networks including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, but confirm the specific device and carrier before purchase.
- Seller and returns: Marketplace listings can have seller-specific warranties and return terms. The observed Walmart listing was restored stock, out of stock, and showed a marketplace seller rating of 3.9/5 when checked.
- Ownership reports: Best Buy customer reviews include reports of heat, battery life, cover-screen limitations, and resale value. These are individual user reports, not controlled tests, and should not be treated as a measured result.

Verify the deal before you pay
- Read the condition field. Confirm the item says new—not restored, renewed, refurbished, open-box, or pre-owned.
- Match the model and storage. Confirm it is a Galaxy Z Flip6, not a Flip5 or another model, and note whether it is 256GB or 512GB. For the U.S. unlocked 256GB listing cited above, the model number is SM-F741U.
- Confirm the lock status and seller. Check that the device is unlocked or works with your carrier, and identify whether Samsung, a major retailer, or a marketplace vendor is selling it.
- Calculate the real price. Separate checkout cost from trade-in value, future bill credits, rebates, taxes, shipping, activation fees, and plan payments.
- Read warranty and return terms. Confirm who handles a defect or return, how long you have to return the phone, and whether restocking fees apply.
- Check stock at checkout. A listed price is not an available deal if the selected color or seller is out of stock.
- Record when you checked. Prices, inventory, seller, and conditions can change; keep the date with any comparison you rely on.
