The bundle included boosted trade-in values, model-specific Samsung credits, free storage upgrades and accessory incentives. The most striking example was a 512GB Galaxy S25 Ultra for about $399 with a qualifying trade-in, but that was not a universal sale price. These are historical launch terms; shoppers today must verify any replacement offer at checkout.
What actually expired
Samsung opened U.S. preorders on January 22, 2025, and began general sales on February 7. The launch announcement advertised up to $1,250 in combined savings through eligible trade-in, a $50 reservation credit and 15% off Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss. The preorder bundle was scheduled to end February 6, although Samsung could substitute another promotion rather than simply remove every discount.
The separate benefits mattered because they did not all reduce the phone price in the same way:
- Instant Samsung credit: up to $50 for Galaxy S25, $100 for S25+ and $300 for S25 Ultra.
- Enhanced trade-in credit: up to $500, $700 and $900 respectively, subject to the device and inspection.
- Free storage upgrade: a larger capacity at the lower capacity’s price, rather than cash back.
- Samsung or reservation credit: usable only under the applicable offer rules, often for accessories.
- Accessory incentives: discounts or credits involving Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Galaxy Watch models.
- Protection discount: 15% off Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss for qualifying preorders.

Launch prices and maximum advertised credits

These ceilings came from launch-period deal coverage, not guarantees for every buyer. The model-by-model breakdown is reported by 9to5Google.
The headline $399 Galaxy S25 Ultra example
9to5Google reported that a 512GB Galaxy S25 Ultra could cost approximately $399 after the relevant Samsung promotion and a qualifying trade-in. The same shopping flow could include a $350 Samsung credit for Galaxy Buds3 Pro or other eligible accessories. This required the right trade-in, condition, configuration and checkout selections; it was not the sticker price of every 512GB Ultra.
There is also an economic point that a headline price hides: surrendering a recent phone has value. A more useful calculation is:
Effective upgrade cost = checkout amount + value of the phone surrendered − value of credits or accessories you will actually use.

An accessory credit you would not otherwise spend is not equivalent to cash, and a $399 checkout total does not mean the upgrade was economically $399 if the trade-in could have been sold privately for substantially more.
Which buyer had the strongest reason to order?
Existing Galaxy Ultra or foldable owner
Samsung.com was usually the most configurable route for an owner of a Galaxy S24 Ultra, Z Fold5 or another device receiving a high promotional value. Direct checkout could combine the trade-in, instant credit, storage upgrade and Samsung accessory offers. The Z Fold6’s nominal trade-in value was less compelling in the cited coverage because that phone retained substantial resale value.
Buyer without a trade-in
The free storage upgrade and instant Samsung credit were the main benefits. Without a qualifying phone, the “up to” trade-in figure does not apply, so compare the final unlocked cash price with retailer promotions instead of using the maximum headline.
Buyer who wants a gift card, pickup or carrier financing
Best Buy’s preorder result advertised a $200 e-gift card on qualifying purchases, with activation and trade-in conditions on some AT&T offers. A gift card is useful only if you would shop there, and carrier offers can require a new line, a specified plan and 24- or 36-month bill credits. Check the Best Buy listing for the applicable activation and financing terms.

Samsung versus Best Buy and carriers

Choose based on effective cost, not the largest number in an advertisement. Compare the unlocked price, the value of your trade-in, taxes, financing length, activation requirements, return window and whether you can use an accessory credit.
Why waiting was risky—but not guaranteed to be worse
The risk was losing a particular bundle, not a permanent price increase. Samsung removed the S24 free-storage upgrade immediately after that phone reached general availability, according to the launch-period report, but future promotions were unpredictable. A later carrier, clearance or holiday sale could match or exceed one part of the preorder offer.
After February 6, the free storage upgrade, boosted trade-in ceiling, Samsung credit, accessory bundle and exclusive capacity or color could each disappear independently. Inventory could also change before the promotion’s stated end. The final-day coverage is archived at 9to5Google.

The maximum combined figure generally blended an instant promotional credit with a trade-in credit and the value of storage or accessory benefits. It did not mean every customer could buy any S25 for $1,250 below retail.

Samsung’s trade-in rules require the old device to power on, hold a charge and have a functioning display, and it must be removed from accounts and locks and not be blacklisted. Leased, damaged, locked or otherwise ineligible devices can fail inspection. Samsung’s current eligibility guidance is at Samsung’s phone-offers page.
Trade-in checklist and chargeback risks
- Select the exact model, storage, color and unlocked or carrier configuration.
- Enter the trade-in device and answer every condition question accurately.
- Confirm which credit is instant, which is accessory-only and whether storage is upgraded.
- Save the order confirmation and the trade-in deadline.
- Back up the old phone, remove accounts and locks, factory-reset it and photograph its condition.
- Ship it with tracking by the stated deadline and retain the receipt.
Samsung can charge back a trade-in credit if the phone arrives late or fails the declared eligibility inspection. The launch terms explain these conditions at Samsung’s Unpacked notice.
Should you buy, compare or wait?
- Order during a comparable promotion: you have a high-value Galaxy trade-in, want the Ultra, can use Samsung credit and prefer a specific configuration.
- Compare unlocked prices: you have no trade-in, want the lowest cash total or would not use Samsung accessories.
- Check carriers: you already want the qualifying plan and are comfortable keeping service through the entire bill-credit term.
- Wait: your current phone is satisfactory, its private-sale value exceeds Samsung’s credit, or you want price history and reviews before committing.
What this means for shoppers today
The February 2025 preorder deadline has passed, and the $399 Ultra example, $900 trade-in ceiling and accessory credits should not be treated as live August 2026 offers. Samsung’s indexed S25 offers page has shown the base model from $799.99 before trade-in, but that search result does not establish today’s checkout price, inventory or promotion. Verify the live terms at Samsung, Best Buy and your carrier before paying or sending in a phone.
