FxPro and XM are not interchangeable brokers. FxPro is usually the better choice for traders who want a wider selection of platforms, including cTrader, or who value a more established multi-asset CFD offering. XM is often the simpler option for beginners, small-account traders, and people who want a straightforward MT4 or MT5 setup.
The decisive issue is not the logo on the website. It is the legal entity accepting your account. Available markets, leverage, negative-balance protection, fees, promotions, and investor protection can change substantially by country.
FxPro vs XM: quick verdict
| Trader type | Better starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner using MetaTrader | XM | Its account structure and MT4/MT5 offering are generally easy to understand, although the exact account names and conditions depend on location. |
| Trader who wants cTrader | FxPro | FxPro has historically offered MT4, MT5, cTrader, and its own web-based platform in eligible regions. |
| Very small position sizes | XM, subject to local availability | XM has traditionally marketed Micro accounts and small trade sizes. Confirm the minimum volume before opening an account. |
| Active trader comparing commission pricing | Either | Compare the actual spread plus commission for the same pair and time of day. Neither broker is automatically cheaper. |
| Trader seeking the broadest product range | FxPro in many regions | FxPro commonly offers forex, indices, shares, metals, energies, and other CFDs, but the catalogue varies by entity. |
| Trader who wants long-term investments | Neither by default | Both are principally leveraged-trading brokers. CFDs are not a substitute for owning shares or funds in a normal investment account. |
The first question: which country are you in?
FxPro and XM operate through separate companies for different markets. A UK or European customer may receive stronger regulatory protections and lower leverage than a customer onboarded through an offshore entity. The same brand can therefore show different instruments, account types, margin requirements, and dispute procedures.
Before comparing either broker, open its legal or regulatory page and identify:
#1 Best Overall
- The company name in your account agreement.
- The regulator and licence number.
- The compensation scheme, if any.
- Whether negative-balance protection applies.
- The maximum leverage and margin-closeout rules.
- Which products are actually available to residents of your country.
Do not choose an offshore entity simply because it advertises higher leverage. Higher leverage reduces the margin needed to open a position; it does not reduce the risk of the position itself.
Regulation and client protection
FxPro and XM have both used multiple regulated entities internationally. The protection attached to an account comes from the entity on your contract, not from the group’s best-known licence elsewhere.
For a retail client, the practical differences may include:
- Leverage limits: regulated retail accounts commonly face leverage caps, while some offshore entities advertise much higher limits.
- Negative-balance protection: this can prevent losses from exceeding the account balance, but its scope and exclusions must be read carefully.
- Segregation of client money: regulated firms generally describe how retail funds are held separately from company funds.
- Compensation: an investor-compensation scheme may apply in one jurisdiction and not another.
- Product restrictions: CFDs, share CFDs, cryptocurrencies, and options may not be available to every client.
A broker’s regulatory status does not make leveraged CFD trading safe. It only defines some of the safeguards around the account.

Both brokers may offer more than one pricing model. A spread-only account builds the broker’s charge into the bid-ask spread. A commission account normally offers a narrower spread but charges separately when the position is opened, closed, or both.
The relevant calculation is:
All-in cost = spread cost + opening commission + closing commission + overnight funding + conversion charges
For example, a 0.6-pip spread is not necessarily cheaper than a 1.0-pip spread if the first account adds commission on both sides of the trade. The comparison must use the same:
- currency pair;
- trade size;
- account currency;
- holding period;
- market session; and
- pricing account.
Spreads and commissions
FxPro has commonly provided both spread-based and tighter, commission-based account choices. XM has also offered spread-only accounts alongside account types designed around lower spreads and a separate commission. Names such as “Raw,” “Zero,” “Ultra Low,” or similar labels are not enough to establish which broker is cheaper.

Look at the broker’s instrument specification or contract-details page. Check the typical or published spread, commission per lot, minimum trade size, and whether the quoted commission applies per side or round trip.

Holding a leveraged CFD or forex position past the daily rollover can create a financing debit or credit. The amount depends on the instrument, direction, interest-rate conditions, and the broker’s markup. Some instruments also have a multi-day weekend adjustment.
If you plan to hold trades for days or weeks, overnight funding can outweigh a small difference in the entry spread. Download each broker’s current swap or financing schedule and calculate the cost for your intended position size.
Deposits, withdrawals, and inactivity
Payment methods, processing times, minimum withdrawals, and inactivity policies vary by country and payment provider. A broker may waive its own deposit fee while a bank, card issuer, or e-wallet still charges one. Currency conversion can also be expensive if your account currency differs from your deposit currency.
Before funding an account, check the fee page and test a small withdrawal. A smooth deposit is not proof that withdrawals will be equally fast.
Platforms: FxPro has the broader choice
FxPro has traditionally stood out for platform variety. Depending on the client’s jurisdiction, its offering may include:
- MetaTrader 4;
- MetaTrader 5;
- cTrader; and
- FxPro’s proprietary web or mobile interface.
That matters if you already use cTrader, want depth-of-market tools, or are moving an automated strategy between platforms. MT4 remains widely supported by expert advisers, while MT5 adds more markets and a newer architecture, though compatibility between MT4 and MT5 automated systems is not automatic.
Rank #3
XM’s core strength is its familiar MetaTrader setup. It has generally focused on MT4 and MT5, alongside its own mobile or account-management tools in supported markets. This can be an advantage for a trader who wants fewer platform decisions and plans to use standard indicators, charting, or Expert Advisors.
Before choosing, verify these details rather than relying on an old review:
- Is the platform available in your country?
- Does the account connect to MT4, MT5, or both?
- Are hedging and Expert Advisors allowed?
- Can you use the same account on desktop, browser, and mobile?
- Does the broker permit third-party copy trading or VPS use?
Markets and instruments
FxPro is generally the stronger candidate for a multi-asset CFD trader. Its regional websites commonly list forex alongside products such as indices, commodities, metals, energies, and share CFDs. Availability is entity-specific, and the product list can differ between a regulated European account and an international account.
XM is best known for forex and CFDs. It may also provide CFDs on indices, metals, energies, shares, and other instruments depending on the contracting entity. The important distinction is that a listed CFD gives you price exposure; it does not give you ownership of the underlying company or fund.
If your goal is to build a retirement portfolio, compare these brokers with a regulated share-and-fund investment platform instead. FxPro and XM are primarily designed for short-term or leveraged speculation, not unleveraged buy-and-hold investing.
Minimum deposits, trade sizes, and leverage
Advertised minimum deposits are weak evidence of affordability. The more useful questions are:
Recommended Free Tools
- What is the smallest position size?
- What margin is required for the pair or CFD?
- What is the minimum account balance after a withdrawal?
- Are smaller trade sizes available on every account type?
- Does the broker automatically close positions at a stated margin level?
XM has historically appealed to small-account traders through Micro-style sizing and low stated entry requirements. FxPro may suit traders who want more account and platform flexibility. Neither point removes the risk of rapid losses when leverage is used.
Leverage is normally product- and jurisdiction-specific. A broker may offer one maximum for major forex pairs, another for minor pairs, and much lower limits for shares or cryptocurrencies. Use the margin calculator for the exact instrument instead of multiplying the advertised maximum by your balance.
Execution and trading conditions
Both brokers operate in markets where spreads can widen around economic announcements, market opens, rollovers, and periods of thin liquidity. Stop-loss orders may execute at a worse price than requested when the market gaps or moves rapidly.
When comparing execution, review more than the marketing claim about “fast execution.” Check:
- whether the broker acts as principal to the trade;
- how it describes slippage and requotes;
- the order types supported;
- the hours for each market;
- the minimum stop distance, if any; and
- how overnight gaps and margin calls are handled.
Run a demo account and then a small live test. Compare the spread shown before a trade, the fill price, the recorded commission, and the closing cost. Demo execution cannot fully reproduce live liquidity, but it can expose platform problems before real money is involved.
How to choose between them
- Identify the legal entity. Start with your country and read the account agreement.
- Shortlist the instruments. Write down the exact pairs, indices, shares, or commodities you intend to trade.
- Choose the platform. Pick FxPro if cTrader or a broader platform choice matters; pick XM if a simple MT4/MT5 workflow is sufficient.
- Calculate a round-trip trade. Include spread, both commissions, conversion, and one day of financing if you hold overnight.
- Check the smallest practical trade. A low minimum deposit is irrelevant if the minimum position is too large for your risk limit.
- Test withdrawal and support. Deposit a modest amount, contact support with a specific question, and make a small withdrawal.
Who should choose FxPro?
FxPro is the more natural fit for a trader who wants cTrader, multiple platform choices, or a broad CFD watchlist. It may also appeal to someone who already has an MT4 or MT5 strategy and wants the option to move to another supported platform.
It is not automatically the better option for a beginner. More platforms and more markets can create more complexity, and a wider CFD catalogue can encourage overtrading.

XM is a reasonable fit for a beginner who wants a familiar MetaTrader account, a modest starting size, and a relatively direct forex-and-CFD experience. It can also suit traders whose indicators, scripts, or Expert Advisors are already built for MT4 or MT5.

- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.

Check the exact XM entity carefully if you are comparing leverage, promotions, or account types. These are among the details most likely to differ by location.
FAQ
Is FxPro safer than XM?
Neither brand is universally safer. Safety depends on the regulated legal entity, client-money rules, compensation arrangements, and protections that apply in your country. Confirm those details in the account agreement before depositing.
Is FxPro cheaper than XM?
Not necessarily. Compare the complete round-trip cost for the same instrument and trade size. Include the spread, opening and closing commissions, overnight financing, and currency conversion.
Does FxPro offer MetaTrader?
FxPro has traditionally supported MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, alongside other platforms such as cTrader in eligible regions. Platform availability should be confirmed for your country and account type.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does XM offer cTrader?
XM is primarily associated with MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. Do not assume cTrader is available unless it appears on the current platform list for your local XM entity.
Which broker is better for beginners?
XM may be easier for a beginner who wants a straightforward MT4 or MT5 account. FxPro may be better if you specifically want cTrader or several platform choices. A demo account and small live test are more useful than a generic ranking.
Are FxPro and XM suitable for long-term investing?
They are mainly leveraged forex and CFD brokers. CFDs do not provide ownership of the underlying shares or funds and can incur financing charges. For long-term investing, compare a regulated investment platform that offers unleveraged shares and funds.
The Bottom Line
Choose FxPro if platform flexibility, cTrader, or a broader CFD selection is important. Choose XM if you want a familiar MT4/MT5 setup, small-account accessibility, and a simpler trading workflow.
