Pakistan reduced petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices effective October 1, 2026. The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), citing a Petroleum Division notification, reported petrol at Rs387.40 per litre, down Rs0.14, and HSD at Rs400.35 per litre, down Rs1.89. These are the rates for that dated change—not verified prices for today.
What changed on October 1?
APP reported that the Petroleum Division set the revised prices after OGRA determined ex-depot rates. The reductions applied to the two named products below; they do not establish that every petroleum product became cheaper.

All figures in the table were reported by APP for the October 1, 2026 change. HSD had the larger per-litre reduction, but its revised rate remained higher than petrol’s.
Are these the petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan today?
They should not be treated as today’s rates. OGRA’s price-publication portal lists later entries effective October 3 and October 6, 2026, and the Petroleum Division’s latest-news page lists a petroleum-products notice for October 7. The accessible October 7 notice page does not show a rate table, so the later petrol and diesel prices—and any movement since October 1—cannot be confirmed from these figures.

For a current rate, check the latest notice on the OGRA Price Publications portal and the Petroleum Division Latest News page. The Ministry’s October 7 notice is titled “Prices of Petroleum Products on 7th October, 2026”; consult the full notice rather than assuming the October 1 rates still apply.
What was cited as the reason for the reduction?
APP said the adjustment was based on ex-depot prices determined by OGRA and that the Petroleum Division cited international-market developments, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and related costs. International prices and import costs affect domestic rates, but the report does not establish that global prices had entered a sustained decline.

How does the reported fuel subsidy fit in?
Separately, the Associated Press reported on October 6, 2026, that Pakistan’s government had provided fuel subsidies to more than 9 million low-income people amid rising energy prices. Information Technology Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja described the program as a nationwide, technology-based targeted subsidy. AP reported that groups included motorcycle riders, rickshaw operators and owners of small cars.
That reported relief is distinct from the October 1 price cut. The report does not establish detailed eligibility rules, subsidy amounts, enrollment steps or whether applications remain open. For those details, rely on a current official program announcement rather than assuming that a group mentioned in the AP report qualifies.
