The Federal Trade Commission announced in March 2025 that it was sending more than $25.5 million to consumers harmed by two tech-support companies. That is the amount being distributed to consumers—not the settlement total. The FTC described the settlement as $26 million.

What the FTC payment is about

The FTC’s Restoro-Reimage case entry says the matter involved two companies selling computer-repair services through deception. The agency said the companies agreed to settle FTC charges. The case summary describes the settlement but does not establish that every allegation was decided at trial.

The FTC’s 2025 report also treats the redress announcement as part of its enforcement work addressing tech-support scams and consumer harm. FTC 2025 Annual Highlights

Why the figures are different

The figures refer to two different things: the settlement amount and the money the FTC said it was sending to consumers.

How to check whether you qualify

The FTC case summary does not specify who qualified for a payment, how recipients were selected or paid, or whether people had to submit a claim by a deadline. The announcement alone does not establish that every person who encountered a tech-support scam—or every customer of the companies—will receive money.

For current, official information about FTC refunds and payment notices, start with the FTC’s refunds page. Follow instructions only when they are confirmed through an official FTC source. Do not assume a message is genuine simply because it mentions this settlement; be wary of anyone asking you to pay a fee or share sensitive information to release a refund.
