The FTC sent its first Fortnite refund payments in December 2024: 629,344 payments totaling more than $72 million. The exact total reported later by the agency was $72,003,286.94. A second round followed in June 2025, but the claim deadline has now passed. The FTC program page says it is not accepting new claims; it does not confirm whether the additional payments it anticipated for 2026 have been sent.

How much did the first round pay?

The Federal Trade Commission announced the first distribution in December 2024, sending 629,344 payments totaling more than $72 million. In its 2024 refund report, published in 2025, the FTC recorded the exact amount as $72,003,286.94 and said 496,187 payments had been cashed by the report’s reporting point. Those are different measures: payments sent are not the same as payments cashed. FTC December 2024 announcement; FTC 2024 annual report.

The FTC described the average payment in that first round as about $114. That is a historical average for that distribution, not a promised amount for an individual claimant; the agency says approved amounts depended on factors including the number of claims filed. Was there another round of Fortnite refunds?

Yes. In June 2025, the FTC said it had sent 969,173 additional checks and PayPal payments totaling more than $126 million. It reported that the total amount issued for Fortnite-related refunds had reached nearly $200 million. The June distribution covered consumers with valid claims filed by February 14, 2025. The FTC program page said claims filed after February 14, 2025 were still under review and that additional payments were expected in 2026 after review and validation. The official materials available here do not confirm whether that anticipated distribution has happened. Check the FTC’s Fortnite refund page for any newer official update rather than assuming another payment was issued.

Can you still apply?

No. The final deadline to submit a claim was July 9, 2025, and the FTC says the claims process is closed. The February 14 date was the cutoff used for the June 2025 payment round; it was not the final application deadline. The later final deadline allowed claims through July 9, 2025. Who could qualify under the closed program?

The FTC’s historical eligibility criteria covered consumers who met at least one of these conditions:

  • They were charged in-game currency for unwanted items between January 2017 and September 2022.
  • A child charged a parent’s credit card without the parent’s knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018.
  • Their Fortnite account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after they complained to their credit-card company about wrongful charges.

Applicants had to be at least 18 to complete the form; a parent or guardian had to file for someone younger than 18. These criteria describe the now-closed claims process and do not mean that applications are currently being accepted. FTC Fortnite refund program page.

How were refunds delivered, and what if a payment went unclaimed?

Claimants selected a payment method when they filed. The FTC said checks had to be cashed within 90 days and PayPal payments accepted within 30 days. If you are unsure whether a payment remains available or need help with a past claim, use the contact details on the official FTC program page, which identifies Rust Consulting, Inc. as the refund administrator and lists its phone number as 1-833-915-0880. Verify the current contact information there before reaching out.

How can you recognize a refund scam?

The FTC warns that it will not make you pay to receive a refund or provide account information to get one. Its December 2024 announcement states: “The Commission never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a refund.” Be wary of anyone promising to unlock or speed up a payment, demanding a fee, threatening you, or telling you to transfer money. Confirm any message through the FTC’s official program page, not a link or contact supplied by an unsolicited message.

Why did the FTC issue Fortnite refunds?

Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million for consumer refunds as part of the FTC matter. The FTC alleged that Fortnite’s purchase controls could lead players to make unwanted purchases—for example, while waking the game from sleep mode, during a loading screen, or when a player intended to preview an item. It also alleged that children could incur unauthorized charges and that Epic blocked some users who disputed charges from accessing content. These are allegations described in the FTC’s complaint and settlement materials, not independent findings presented here. FTC complaint; FTC December 2024 announcement.

The FTC says the settlement requires Epic to get positive consent before charging users and bars the company from locking players out of their accounts for disputing unauthorized charges. The FTC case record listed the matter as pending and was last updated June 25, 2025; that is the status and date shown on that record, not a newer court update.
