The company cited problems involving city assistance and liquor controls, landlord disputes, and a lack of willingness to negotiate. Its Lee’s Summit taproom remains open, according to a Kansas City Star report republished by AOL.
Which Fringe Beerworks location is closing?
The closure is limited to the Independence taproom at 4354 Noland Road. The Star reported that the location held its ribbon cutting in April and that October 5, 2026, was its final day. Fringe’s original taproom, at 224 SE Douglas St. in Lee’s Summit, is staying open, the report said.
Fringe Beerworks was founded by Mark Myers and Eddie Pease in 2016, according to the same report.
Why does Fringe say the taproom is closing?
In a closing post quoted by the Star, Fringe said its efforts to reach additional markets had been undermined by what it characterized as underwhelming assistance from Independence, city liquor controls it called harassment, disputes with current and former landlords, and landlords’ unwillingness to negotiate. The company said those issues left it with no choice but to close.

Those are Fringe’s allegations, not independently established findings. The report did not include a substantive response from the city or landlords. The Star said it tried multiple ways to reach Fringe but had not heard back by Monday, the date of publication.
What did Fringe mean by “done wrong”?
In a follow-up comment quoted in the report, the business said: “Fringe was done wrong on more than one occasion at both locations.” It did not describe the incidents, saying it wanted to “keep the ‘tea’ in its glass.” The comment does not establish what happened or identify who Fringe believes was responsible, so the specific meaning remains unclear.

What did Fringe ask customers to do?
Fringe encouraged people to visit the Independence taproom on its last day and support small craft breweries. In its closing post, it said craft beer had “taken a hit over the last couple of years” and that it did not want to be “the next one to fall by the waste side.” That is the company’s explanation and appeal; the local closure alone does not establish the financial condition of other Kansas City-area breweries.
