The round was led by Lombard Odier Investment Managers’ Plastic Circularity Fund and Bpifrance’s Large Venture Fund, with support from existing investors including Astanor.
Calyxia is not a consumer microplastic filter or an ocean-cleanup company. Its B2B strategy is to help manufacturers replace selected persistent plastic particles used to deliver fragrances, agricultural chemicals, coatings additives and other active ingredients.

What Calyxia’s $35 million funding is meant to achieve
Calyxia said the Series B brought its cumulative funding to $70 million and would support manufacturing expansion, international commercial deployment and a path toward profitability. The company had installed and qualified its first fully operational factory in 2023 and planned a second Paris-region facility with targeted annual capacity of 3,000 tonnes.

The financing announcement described the round as a scale-up investment rather than early laboratory funding. That distinction matters: Calyxia’s commercial challenge is no longer only to demonstrate that microencapsulation works, but to manufacture consistent materials, qualify them with large industrial customers and compete with established ingredients on performance, cost and regulatory compliance.

- Package Includes:You will get 200pcs 30mm peat pellets for seedlings. They are compressed, round in shape and expand when water is added, making them ideal for seed germination. You may receive either the original or new packaging, the product itself is identical.
- Small Body: They are small and lightweight, with a compressed seed starting soil diameter of 1.4 inches and a height of 0.4 inches. Upon absorbing water, they can expand several times, reaching up to 1.8 inches in height. They are extremely convenient to use as soil for seed starting.
- Easy To Use: First place the peat pellets in a tray or container and add the right amount of warm water to make them swell. Once the peat pellets are fully expanded, cut off the top with scissors and plant the seeds in the soil, then wait for the seed to germinate and grow leaves, the seedlings can be transplanted into pots or gardens
- Natural Materials: Made from natural peat, it provides nutrients for seed germination, offers excellent air permeability and strong water retention, thereby enhancing seed germination rates and survival rates. The outer layer features a unique design of biodegradable non-woven fabric, preventing the peat from easily falling apart.
- Wide Application: Seed starter pellets are an excellent planting soil for germination, ideal for gardening and vegetable plants. They are suitable for initiating any type of seeds, such as tomatoes, peppers, herbs, succulents, flowers, and more. They make the seedling process easier and increase the success rate.
A later Calyxia company page says the second industrial site and headquarters opened in 2025 in Limeil-Brévannes, France, in a facility designed to accommodate up to 300 employees. The company’s public materials reviewed here do not independently establish that the site is operating at the planned 3,000-tonne annual rate.
There is also a funding discrepancy worth noting. The contemporaneous financing announcement and investor materials describe a $35 million Series B, while a later company webpage refers to “$50 million in Series B funding.” The $35 million figure is the better-supported figure for the September 2024 announcement. Some French-language materials also refer to total financing of €70 million rather than $70 million; dollars and euros should not be treated as interchangeable.
Calyxia’s financing announcement provides the company’s account of the round, investors and expansion plans.
The microplastic problem Calyxia is targeting
Microplastics are not one uniform source of pollution. Some are created when larger plastic products fragment or when materials shed particles through wear. Tire abrasion, synthetic-textile fibers, paint wear and degraded plastic products are examples of these diffuse sources.
Calyxia is focused on a narrower category: intentionally added microcapsules and microspheres. Manufacturers use small particles to protect an active ingredient, control when it is released, improve stability or deliver a sensory effect such as fragrance.
The company’s proposed environmental intervention is therefore prevention through substitution:

- A manufacturer identifies a product that uses persistent plastic microcapsules or microspheres.
- Calyxia designs an alternative particle using a biodegradable material and a compatible release profile.
- The manufacturer tests the alternative in its formulation and production process.
- If the material meets performance, safety and regulatory requirements, the company can replace the incumbent particle in future products.
This approach could reduce future emissions from selected products. It does not remove microplastics already present in rivers, oceans, soil, wastewater or human bodies, and it does not address every source of secondary microplastic pollution.
How Calyxia’s microcapsules and microspheres work
Calyxia designs and manufactures particles that encapsulate active ingredients. The shell can protect an ingredient during processing or storage and release it when a selected condition is met. Depending on the application, the objective may be controlled dosage, improved shelf life, greater stability, targeted adhesion or a specific sensory effect.
The company presents its platform as customizable across the active ingredient, shell material, particle size, release mechanism and industrial formulation. Its products are intended for applications ranging from fragrances and personal-care ingredients to crop-protection chemicals, lubricants, epoxy systems and other functional materials.
“Biodegradable” is not a universal environmental guarantee. A buyer would need to establish which part of the particle biodegrades, under what test method and in which environmental compartment—such as soil, freshwater, marine water, wastewater or compost. The public material reviewed here does not provide a complete independent testing dossier for every Calyxia product.

The company’s CalyCare information and Home & Beauty materials describe the relevant applications.
Agriculture
Calyxia’s NaturaCaps line is aimed at agricultural ingredients and crop-protection formulations. Encapsulation can protect an active ingredient and control how it is released, potentially helping a formulation work more efficiently or remain stable during handling.
Whether a particular product reduces environmental impact depends on the full formulation, application rate, degradation behavior and field conditions. Calyxia’s product proposition should not be treated as independently verified field evidence without product-specific data.

Coatings, elastomers and advanced materials
Calyshield is designed for microencapsulated lubricant additives, while Catalyx includes microencapsulated epoxy and other functional-material solutions. The company describes uses in coatings, elastomers, composites, adhesives, electrical and electronics applications and related markets.
In these settings, the capsule must survive manufacturing conditions such as heat, shear, solvents or pressure and then release a functional ingredient at the required point. That performance requirement illustrates why a sustainable substitute cannot be judged only by whether its shell is described as biodegradable.
From laboratory technology to industrial production
The first factory was installed and qualified in 2023, according to the financing announcement. The planned second site was intended to provide 3,000 tonnes of annual production capacity and support higher-volume industrial applications.

The later opening of the Limeil-Brévannes facility is a meaningful development because manufacturing capacity is often the bottleneck for specialty-chemical startups. A formulation may perform well in development but still fail commercially if it cannot be produced consistently, supplied across regions or integrated into a customer’s existing equipment.
However, a planned capacity figure is not the same as actual output. The public information available here does not confirm current production volume, utilization, revenue or the number of tonnes of persistent plastic avoided.

Calyxia has publicized a growing distribution network, including:
- Brenntag: global exclusive distribution for Beauty & Care microsphere solutions, announced in November 2025, including CalyCare Gel 100.
- IMCD: distribution of Catalyx H microencapsulated epoxy products in EMEA, announced in October 2025.
- Azelis: distribution of Calyshield applications for elastomers across EMEA and textile coatings in France, announced in December 2025.
- KRAHN Italia: exclusive Italian distribution for Calyshield applications in textile and leather coatings, announced in January 2026.
- Other regional partners: Calyxia also lists Grolman and additional distributors through its distribution network.
Specialty-chemical distributors can provide local sales coverage, technical support and access to formulators that a startup would struggle to reach directly. They can also help customers evaluate samples and adapt ingredients to existing manufacturing systems.
These agreements are evidence of route-to-market development, not proof of disclosed sales, recurring revenue, profitability, market share or verified environmental impact. Pricing is not publicly listed, and an industrial buyer would generally need a technical and commercial discussion with Calyxia or a regional distributor.

Biodegradation and environmental behavior
- Which test standard was used?
- Was the complete particle tested, or only the shell?
- What environmental compartment was studied?
- How long did degradation take?
- Did degradation leave persistent residues or problematic additives?
Performance
- Particle-size distribution and release profile
- Stability during storage
- Resistance to manufacturing heat, shear, pH and solvents
- Fragrance retention, adhesion and wash-off behavior where relevant
- Compatibility with existing equipment and formulations
Regulatory and commercial fit
- Whether the product complies with applicable regional rules on intentionally added synthetic polymer microparticles
- Required REACH, safety and environmental documentation
- Minimum order quantities and lead times
- Cost per kilogram and total reformulation cost
- Whether changing the ingredient requires new regulatory filings, testing or consumer validation
A product can be biodegradable under a specified test condition without breaking down rapidly in every environment. Similarly, “microplastic-free” and “biodegradable” are not interchangeable claims. The correct assessment must be product-specific and tied to the buyer’s target market and regulation.

The business case—and what remains unproven
Calyxia and its CEO cited a microcapsule market of about $5 billion at the time of the funding and roughly $10 billion by 2030. Those are company-reported market estimates, not independently validated market data.
The company also said the financing would put it on a path toward net profitability by 2026. The sources reviewed do not independently verify that the target was achieved, so it is more accurate to describe profitability as an objective rather than a reported outcome.
The key scale-up questions are now practical ones:
- How much product is being manufactured and sold?
- How many customers have moved from trials to recurring commercial orders?
- Are the products cost-competitive after reformulation and qualification costs?
- What independent biodegradation and lifecycle evidence is available?
- How many tonnes of persistent plastic particles have customers actually avoided?
- Can the company maintain performance while increasing production?
The $35 million round gives Calyxia resources to pursue those goals, but funding alone does not answer them.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBottom line
Calyxia is attempting to make microplastic pollution prevention a commercial materials-substitution business. Its biodegradable microcapsules and microspheres are designed to replace selected persistent particles in consumer care, agriculture, coatings and advanced materials—not to clean up existing microplastics across the environment.
The strongest evidence of progress is the company’s move from a qualified first factory to a reported second industrial site and a broader distributor network. The most important evidence still needed is independent product-level data on biodegradation, manufacturing throughput, customer adoption, profitability and verified pollution reductions.
