FreeHostBox is a real free-hosting service, but it is best treated as a learning, testing or hobby platform—not a business-critical host. Its current site advertises free PHP/MySQL hosting, WordPress installation, cPanel, SSL options, free subdomains and no forced advertising. The safer planning assumption is 5 GB of storage, despite older “unlimited” descriptions. Resource restrictions, no guaranteed backups, broad suspension rights and limited independent performance data make independent backups and a migration plan essential.
What is FreeHostBox?
FreeHostBox operates a free shared-hosting service. Its homepage presents permanent free hosting, signup without a credit card or SMS verification, free subdomains, PHP/MySQL, one-click WordPress, cPanel-related tools and SSL integrations. Those are provider claims, not independent performance measurements: FreeHostBox also uses promotional labels such as “No. 1” without publishing a methodology.
The service has an official blog, help center and a current third-party directory listing, which indicates an operating online service. It does not prove durable data storage, strong uptime, financial stability or suitability for critical workloads. See the official blog, help center and HostAdvice listing.
What the free plan includes
| Feature | What is documented | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free / ¥0 | Shown by the homepage and HostAdvice listing. |
| Storage | 5 GB | The provider announced this formal limit on February 8, 2023; HostAdvice also lists 5 GB. |
| Bandwidth | Unlimited (HostAdvice listing) | Still subject to acceptable-use and shared-resource controls. |
| Sites | Unlimited (HostAdvice listing) | Account, inode, resource and policy limits can still apply. |
| PHP and MySQL | Advertised | Exact versions, quotas and performance are not stated in the available evidence. |
| WordPress | One-click installation advertised | Technical installation support is not managed-WordPress performance assurance. |
| Control panel | cPanel referenced; HostAdvice lists cPanel | Confirm the exact feature set after signup. |
| SSL | GoGetSSL and ZeroSSL integrations referenced | Certificate issuance and renewal steps should be checked in the account. |
| Domains | Free subdomains advertised | A custom domain gives better DNS and migration control. |
| Advertising | Homepage says no advertisements | The terms retain conflicting legacy advertising language. |
“Unlimited” does not mean unlimited server capacity. CPU, memory, database activity, concurrent processes and inode use may become the practical limits, even when monthly transfer is described as unlimited.

The important storage correction: plan for 5 GB
Older reviews and cached promotional text may say FreeHostBox offered unlimited disk space. Its official blog announced on February 8, 2023 that the free plan changed to a formal 5 GB limit, and the current HostAdvice table also shows 5 GB. Plan around 5 GB rather than relying on undated “unlimited storage” claims: provider announcement.
Is FreeHostBox fast and reliable?
There is not enough independent data for a meaningful uptime score or speed guarantee. HostAdvice says it lacks enough data for a proper expert review and displays one user review dated October 9, 2022. That reviewer, using the service for PHP study for about three months, reported occasional slow loading and said Cloudflare improved perceived speed. This is useful anecdotal evidence, not a benchmark or representative sample.
Rank #2
The same review reported that FreeHostBox free-subdomain nameservers could not be changed, limiting the usual Cloudflare setup. If DNS control matters, use a domain you own and verify nameserver access before building around a CDN. Source: HostAdvice.
Terms and risks you should understand
Backups are your responsibility
The terms do not promise free backups or ordinary restoration. FreeHostBox says it may charge US$9.99 to create a backup on a customer’s behalf under its stated policy. Termination can delete files, databases, email and associated data: terms of service.
Rank #3
- Export files regularly through FTP or the control panel.
- Export MySQL databases separately.
- Keep at least one copy outside FreeHostBox.
- Test a restoration before treating the site as protected.
Suspension and termination
The provider may suspend without prior notice for excessive resource use or impact on shared-server performance. It may terminate inactive or rule-breaking accounts, modify or discontinue the service, and delete content after termination. The terms allow up to three free hosting accounts per person; additional accounts may be treated as abuse.
Prohibited or unsuitable workloads
The terms restrict excessive resource use, warez and illegal material, bulk email, proxy scripts, application-server behavior, archives, file sharing and large volumes of non-web content. Outgoing mail is monitored and filtered and must be sent to or from a FreeHostBox-hosted domain, making it a poor choice for dependable transactional email or bulk mailing.
Advertising documentation conflict
The homepage currently markets hosting as ad-free, while the terms contain older provisions allowing advertising and prohibiting ad blockers. Check the current signup and account documentation rather than assuming either statement is definitive.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.WordPress, custom domains and Cloudflare
One-click WordPress and PHP/MySQL make FreeHostBox plausible for a learning site, demo or low-traffic personal blog. WordPress plugins, themes, scheduled tasks and database queries can consume substantially more shared resources than a simple static site, so a plugin-heavy or growing installation may be suspended under the resource rules.
Best Value
A reader-owned custom domain is preferable to a free subdomain when you need portable DNS, Cloudflare or an easier host migration. Cloudflare may help caching and traffic protection, but the nameserver limitation was reported by one user and should not be generalized to every account.
Support and security expectations
A help center and technical blog exist, but the available evidence does not establish 24/7 coverage, phone support, guaranteed response times or an SLA. Official posts discuss Cloudflare rate limiting and DDoS-related Error 1015, showing that traffic-abuse controls matter; they do not constitute a security certification or uptime guarantee. See the Error 1015 post and the traffic-abuse discussion.
Who should use FreeHostBox?
- Good fit: students learning HTML, PHP or MySQL; simple WordPress experiments; hobby and personal pages; temporary or disposable sites; users able to maintain external backups.
- Possible with caution: a small public site whose owner accepts migration risk, uses independent backups and does not depend on guaranteed availability.
- Poor fit: ecommerce, business-critical operations, client sites without a stronger service agreement, background workers, queue or cron-heavy applications, large databases, download repositories, or legally and financially important data.
When paid hosting is the better choice
Choose conventional shared hosting when you need a custom domain, dependable email and clearer account support; managed WordPress hosting when automatic updates, backups and WordPress-specific assistance matter; a VPS when you need resource isolation and administrative control; or static hosting when your site only needs HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Verify current plans and prices directly before purchasing because those vary by provider and date.
Final verdict
FreeHostBox is worth trying for low-risk learning and hobby projects. Treat the free plan as a 5 GB, resource-limited shared environment with no guaranteed backup, uptime or support commitment. Keep portable backups outside the account, avoid irreplaceable data and be prepared to move if policies, resources or availability change.
