Freedom Mobile’s May 2025 refresh turned its 30-day Roam Beyond passes from data-focused add-ons into fuller travel coverage. The reported tiers are $30 for 5GB and $50 for 10GB, each with unlimited SMS texting and calls to Canada and local numbers in the country you are visiting. They are not unlimited-data passes: once the included data is used, pay-per-use data charges can begin before the 30 days end.
What changed in the Roam Beyond passes?
On May 7, 2025, Freedom Mobile refreshed its 30-day Roam Beyond passes by adding talk and text and increasing the reported data tiers to 5GB and 10GB. That makes a pass a temporary alternative to changing your monthly plan, particularly for customers whose existing plans do not include international roaming.

The following prices were reported at the May 2025 refresh and are before applicable taxes. Freedom’s current support documentation still describes 30-day passes starting at $30 and going up to 10GB, but its static page does not display the complete live price table. Check the offer shown in My Account immediately before buying.

The roaming data is additional to your regular Canadian plan allowance; it does not draw down the domestic data bucket. Freedom explains this separation at https://www.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/network-coverage/international-roaming.
What “unlimited talk” includes—and what it does not
Included calls
- Calls back to Canadian numbers.
- Calls to ordinary local numbers in the country where you are roaming.
- Incoming calls while you are in Canada or an eligible Roam Beyond destination.
Excluded or potentially chargeable calls
“Unlimited” does not mean unlimited calling to every country. For example, while in France, a call to Canada or a French number fits the pass; a call to Germany, Japan or the United Kingdom may not. Freedom’s published international-roaming information lists calls to destinations outside your current roaming destination at $3.50 per minute and satellite numbers at $10 per minute. Texting is not unlimited internet messaging
Freedom describes the benefit as unlimited global texting, meaning SMS. WhatsApp, iMessage, Messenger, RCS, photo messages and video messages use mobile data (unless sent over Wi-Fi) and consume the pass’s data allowance.
Where the passes work
Freedom’s current Roam Beyond information describes coverage in more than 120 destinations, including the United States and Mexico, much of Europe, Australia and New Zealand, numerous Caribbean countries, parts of Central and South America, and selected destinations in Asia and Africa. The list can change; Freedom says additions or removals are applied automatically to an existing plan or pass. The United States coverage includes Alaska and Hawaii. Mexico is eligible too, but many Freedom monthly plans already include U.S. and Mexico roaming, so verify your existing benefits before buying a pass. For a multi-country trip, every country on the itinerary must be eligible.
The overage risk: data does not simply stop
After the pass’s 5GB or 10GB is consumed, pay-per-use data charges can apply immediately—even though the 30-day term is still running. The pass is not an unlimited-data plan and does not promise automatic throttling. Calls to Canada and local numbers, incoming calls and global SMS remain included until the pass expires.
When the 30 days end, the pass’s talk, text and data benefits end as well. Pay-per-use rates may then apply unless you add another pass or have a qualifying monthly-plan benefit. Monitor usage in My Account and disable cellular data for high-use apps if you are close to the limit.

How to activate a pass
- Sign in to https://login.freedommobile.ca/.
- Open Add-Ons and Passes.
- Scroll through the available add-ons and passes and select the Roam Beyond offer you want.
- Select Add to my plan.
- Accept the displayed terms and charges.
- Select Confirm and Add.
If you need the 30-day period to begin on a particular date, contact Freedom before departure to request scheduled activation rather than assuming the clock starts when you land. Confirm the exact start and expiry dates in your account.

Checklist before leaving Canada
- In My Account, confirm that US Roaming, International Roaming and International Calling are enabled.
- On the phone, enable cellular/data roaming only when you are ready to use the pass.
- Check that the device and SIM support the roaming technology used at your destination. Some destinations require VoLTE Roaming for voice, messaging, data and emergency calling, including 9-1-1; not every phone supports it.
- Save the current destination list and the account’s usage display so you can check coverage and remaining data while travelling.

Dial correctly while abroad
Use the plus sign, country code and full number: + country code phone number. Canada and the United States use country code 1, so a Canadian number is dialled as +1 followed by its 10-digit number. This format avoids ambiguity when your phone is connected to a foreign partner network.

Freedom says Wi-Fi Calling is treated as if you were connected to the Freedom network in Canada, even when you are physically abroad. A Wi-Fi call to a destination not covered by your Canadian-side plan can therefore incur long-distance charges instead of using the Roam Beyond pass’s local-call treatment.
Wi-Fi Calling can still be useful where cellular service is weak, so do not treat turning it off as a universal rule. Before relying on it, understand how Freedom will classify the destination and consider disabling it while roaming if you specifically need the pass’s local-number coverage. Which option fits your trip?
Choose the reported $30 tier for moderate use
The 5GB option suits a short or moderate-data trip involving maps, email, rideshare apps, messaging and occasional social media. It also works well when keeping your Canadian number available for ordinary calls and SMS matters more than a large data bucket.
Choose the reported $50 tier for more headroom
The 10GB option is the safer one-pass choice for a full 30-day trip, frequent navigation, video calls, social uploads or occasional hotspot use. It delays—but does not eliminate—the pay-per-use risk.
Consider a monthly Roam Beyond plan
Frequent travellers may prefer a recurring plan rather than repeatedly buying 30-day passes. Freedom’s February 24, 2026 Total Freedom announcement describes plans with roaming in 120-plus destinations starting at $35 per month after the digital discount and taxes, with a stated minimum three-month subscription condition. Consider a separate travel eSIM
A travel eSIM may suit data-heavy travellers, people visiting a country outside the Roam Beyond list, or anyone who does not need their Freedom number for voice calls. Compare destination coverage, total data, tethering, local-number availability, setup requirements and whether voice is app-based. Current competitor pricing is not included here because it changes frequently.
