Frazier Life Sciences announced a $987 million venture-fund close on March 16, 2022. The firm’s archived announcement says the fund would invest in companies developing novel biopharmaceuticals. That historical close is separate from Frazier’s later venture and public-fund raises.
What Frazier announced in 2022
Frazier Life Sciences’ archive lists the announcement on March 16, 2022, under the headline “Frazier Life Sciences Closes $987 Million Venture Fund to Invest in Companies Developing Novel Biopharmaceuticals.” The $987 million figure refers to that fund close. The available archive entry does not establish a fund number, its specific investment stages, its limited partners, or a detailed portfolio plan. Frazier’s archived announcement
How the 2022 close differs from later fundraising
Frazier has reported subsequent fundraising under different vehicles and strategies. The distinctions matter: the later figures do not update or describe the 2022 fund.
| Date | Fund or strategy | Reported amount | Stated focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| March 16, 2022 | Venture fund | $987 million at close, according to the announcement headline | Companies developing novel biopharmaceuticals, according to the headline. Further stage details are not established by the archived entry. Frazier archive |
| July 31, 2025 | Frazier Life Sciences XII (FLS XII), a separate venture fund | Over $1.3 billion in capital commitments at close, reported by Frazier | Primarily company creation and early-stage private biopharmaceutical companies. Frazier announcement |
| September 10, 2026 | Public Fund, a separate strategy | $1.1 billion, as listed in Frazier’s archive | Public-fund strategy; it is not identified as a venture-fund close. Frazier news archive |
What Frazier’s later figures say about its fundraising
In its 2025 announcement, Frazier said it had raised over $3.6 billion across five dedicated venture funds since 2016, and more than $1.7 billion in long-only public funds since 2021. These are company-reported totals with different strategies and time periods; they should not be added to or treated as details of the $987 million 2022 close. Frazier’s 2025 announcement

Frazier described FLS XII as focused primarily on company creation and early-stage private biopharmaceutical companies. Managing Partner Patrick Heron said of that fund: “With FLS XII, we look forward to continuing to work with exceptional entrepreneurs to advance therapeutic programs with the potential to address significant medical needs.” The statement concerns FLS XII, not the 2022 fund.

A venture-fund close is capital raised for investment, not a measure of returns to investors or a guarantee that any particular drug, company, or treatment will succeed. The announcement headline establishes the 2022 fund’s size and broad biopharmaceutical focus, but the archived entry does not support claims about its specific stage mix or investments. The later FLS XII announcement supplies early-stage detail for that later fund only.
