The figures and conduct are allegations in a superseding indictment, not findings of guilt.
What prosecutors say happened
According to the U.S. Department of Justice’s account of the superseding indictment, conspirators allegedly posed online as young females and contacted thousands of potential victims, primarily young men, including minors, in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
They allegedly offered or sent sexual images or video and arranged live video chats, secretly recorded victims during the chats, then threatened to share the victims’ images with friends, family, partners, employers or coworkers—or to publish them online—unless the victims sent money to designated recipients. Prosecutors also alleged that the group operated infrastructure to move proceeds to conspirators in Côte d’Ivoire and elsewhere overseas.
How much money was allegedly involved
The DOJ said the conspirators allegedly attempted to extort approximately $6.9 million from potential victims. It said approximately $1.9 million was allegedly received through Cash App and Apple Pay alone. Those are separate measures: the first is the alleged amount sought, while the second is the amount prosecutors said was successfully extorted through those two services. The DOJ described the potential victims as numbering in the thousands, not as a precise count.

- Abdul Aziz Sangare, 26
- Abdoul Aziz Traore, 31
The same indictment charged Hadja Kone, 28, of Wilmington, who had previously been arrested in April 2024, and Siaka Ouattara, 22, of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Ivorian authorities separately arrested Ouattara in February 2024 on Ivorian charges connected to the same scheme, according to the DOJ.

What charges were announced
The DOJ said all six defendants were charged with conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and send interstate threats, conspiracy to engage in money laundering, money laundering, and wire fraud. The agency’s September 9, 2024 announcement, updated February 6, 2025, described maximum statutory penalties of up to 20 years for each conspiracy count, money-laundering count and wire-fraud count if a defendant is convicted. A maximum penalty is not a predicted sentence; a federal judge determines any sentence after considering sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
Were the four men convicted?
The cited DOJ announcement establishes that charges were brought; it does not establish a later plea, verdict or sentence. An indictment is an allegation, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
