Michael Leiters became Porsche AG’s CEO and Chairman on January 1, 2026, replacing Oliver Blume in the role. Blume remains CEO of Volkswagen Group. Leiters previously led McLaren Automotive, served as Ferrari’s chief technology officer and spent more than 13 years at Porsche, including work on the Cayenne and leadership of the company’s SUV product line.
Who is Porsche’s new CEO?
Leiters is an automotive engineer and executive whose career has included senior roles at Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren. Porsche’s Executive Board biography says he studied mechanical engineering at Ruhr University Bochum and RWTH Aachen, and earned an engineering doctorate in 2000 at RWTH Aachen’s Werkzeugmaschinenlabor.
His earlier work at Porsche
Leiters joined Porsche in 2000 and worked on the Cayenne Hybrid. He became project manager for the complete Cayenne vehicle in 2009 and director of the SUV product line in 2010. Porsche says he held roles at the company for more than 13 years before moving to Ferrari.
Ferrari and McLaren
He was Ferrari’s chief technology officer from 2014 to 2022, then led McLaren Automotive from July 2022 through April 2025. Porsche announced his appointment on October 17, 2025, before he took office at the start of 2026.

When did Michael Leiters become Porsche CEO?
His appointment took effect on January 1, 2026. Porsche had announced the decision on October 17, 2025. The company said Blume, who had led Porsche AG for ten years, would continue as Volkswagen Group CEO after handing over the Porsche role.
At the time of the appointment, Porsche Supervisory Board Chairman Wolfgang Porsche said Leiters’s automotive experience, leadership style and expertise were well suited to chairing the company’s Executive Board. The appointment announcement contains the company’s full statement.

What has Leiters said Porsche will focus on?
In a March 11, 2026 announcement, Porsche described initial measures under Leiters as applying its “Value over Volume” principle, particularly in China; pursuing a quality-oriented ramp-up of production for the all-electric Cayenne; streamlining management structures to reduce hierarchy and bureaucracy; and sharpening focus on the core business. These are Porsche’s descriptions of measures underway, not evidence that they have already delivered results.
Leiters said the management team had “systematically analysed the situation and begun a series of initial targeted measures.” The statement accompanied Porsche’s March 2026 realignment announcement.

What is known about Porsche’s Strategy 2035?
In the same March announcement, Porsche said that, about seventy days into Leiters’s tenure, he had outlined early cornerstones of Strategy 2035. The company said it was considering expansion into higher-margin segments, including models or derivatives positioned above its current two-door sports cars and above the Cayenne. That is a strategic consideration, not a confirmed product announcement; Porsche has not established in that statement that such vehicles will be built.
Porsche’s January–June 2026 reporting materials carried a statement from Leiters saying the team had worked intensively and with discipline on strategy over the prior six months, while still having substantial work ahead to position Porsche for a challenging future. The materials describe the company’s own view; they do not independently assess financial performance or the likely success of its strategy.
