Ford first paused F-150 Lightning assembly in October 2025, then announced in December that production of the current-generation all-electric pickup had concluded. Tesla, by contrast, still listed Cybertruck as in production in its Q1 2026 investor materials—but its public delivery reports do not disclose Cybertruck sales separately. The contrast is about production status, not proof that Cybertruck sales are rising.
Did Ford stop making the F-150 Lightning?
Ford’s production story has two stages. In October 2025, the company announced an assembly pause as it redirected capacity toward gas and hybrid F-Series trucks following a supply disruption. In December 2025, Ford said production of the current-generation battery-electric F-150 Lightning had concluded. The pause was temporary; the later announcement marked the end of that model’s production. (Ford’s December 2025 filing and release; Ford’s October 2025 statement)
Ford subsequently described broader changes to its electric-vehicle strategy and manufacturing capacity. Its Q2 2026 filing attributed a 53% year-over-year decline in Ford Model e wholesales primarily to right-sizing Mustang Mach-E production and discontinuing the F-150 Lightning. That is a segment-wide wholesale figure, not a Lightning-only sales result. Ford also revised its estimate for additional pre-tax expenses and cash expenditures related to EV strategy actions to up to $2 billion. (Ford Q2 2026 filing)
A different Lightning is planned
Ford’s plant directory identifies the Dearborn Truck Plant as the future home of an F-150 Lightning extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). That is a future product with a different powertrain plan from the discontinued battery-electric Lightning; the directory does not establish that the EREV is already in production. Is the Tesla Cybertruck “heating up”?
The available figures establish that Tesla continued to list Cybertruck as in production—not that sales were accelerating. Tesla’s Q1 2026 investor update gave the Texas line installed annual manufacturing capacity of more than 125,000. Tesla defines installed capacity as the current production rate and cautions that actual output can be lower because of equipment uptime, component supply, factory-upgrade downtime, regulatory considerations, and other factors. Capacity is not production, deliveries, or sales. (Tesla Q1 2026 investor update)
Tesla also said it had begun Cybertruck deliveries in the UAE. That confirms deliveries in a new market, but the announcement does not provide a quarterly Cybertruck sales total or establish a sales trend. (Tesla Q1 2026 investor update)

How many Cybertrucks did Tesla sell?
Tesla’s cited quarterly delivery reports do not break out Cybertruck. They combine it with other vehicles in an “Other Models” category, so the category totals cannot be treated as Cybertruck-only deliveries.
| Quarter | Tesla “Other Models” deliveries | What the figure establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Q2 2026 | 12,364 | Combined category total; Cybertruck’s individual share is not stated. (Tesla Q2 2026 delivery report) |
| Q3 2026 | 8,295 | Combined category total; Cybertruck’s individual share is not stated. (Tesla Q3 2026 delivery report) |
Because those totals include other models, the difference between quarters cannot show whether Cybertruck deliveries rose or fell. They also are not directly comparable with Ford Model e wholesales: the figures cover different categories and measures, and neither provides a like-for-like truck sales comparison.

What the comparison does—and does not—show
- Ford’s current-generation battery-electric Lightning: production concluded in December 2025 after an October assembly pause.
- Ford’s future product plan: the plant directory lists a Lightning EREV as a future product, not a truck already in production.
- Tesla Cybertruck: Tesla listed it as in production in Q1 2026 materials, but its quarterly delivery reports do not publish a standalone Cybertruck total.
- Capacity: Tesla’s figure of more than 125,000 is installed annual capacity, not a measure of realized output or sales.
Those distinctions matter for readers assessing automakers’ strategies: a production decision, an installed-capacity figure, and a delivery total answer different questions. The available figures support a contrast between Ford ending its current electric Lightning and Tesla continuing Cybertruck production, but they do not establish that Cybertruck demand is gaining momentum.
