Forbes 30 Under 30 2021 List: Meet Five Technology-Related Honorees

Tech Times’ December 1, 2020 article, “Forbes 30 Under 30 2021 List: Meet 5 of the Featured Honorees for Technology,” profiled five people from the Forbes 2021 class. The class year refers to Forbes’ annual list announced in late 2020. The five were not presented as a complete official Forbes “Technology” roster; they came from several categories: Social Media, Energy, Consumer Technology, Enterprise Technology, and Finance Technology.

This guide preserves the article’s historical context and labels figures that described conditions around publication rather than current company or audience statistics.

Why a 2021 list article appeared in 2020

Isaiah Alonzo’s Tech Times article was published December 1, 2020, at 8:38 p.m. EST. Forbes announced its 2021 class before the calendar year began, which is why a 2021 list could be covered in December 2020. Tech Times described that edition as the tenth annual class and reported 600 honorees, an average age of 26.6, and 12% under age 23. Those are figures reported in that period’s coverage, not a current Forbes database.

The five featured honorees

Marques Brownlee — Social Media

Brownlee was included as a technology-review creator through his MKBHD YouTube channel. The channel’s subject is consumer technology—phones, computers, cameras, and related products—while Forbes’ category label was Social Media. That distinction explains why a media creator appears in a technology-focused selection: the technology connection is the editorial work and audience, not membership in a hardware or software company.

Tech Times reported approximately 13 million subscribers and nearly 700 million views during the preceding year. Both numbers describe the channel around late 2020 and should not be read as current totals.

Alexander Liegl — Energy

Liegl was linked to Layer1 Technologies. Tech Times described a West Texas wind-power operation supplying low-cost electricity for cryptocurrency-mining activity. The technology story here is the integration of energy infrastructure with compute-intensive digital-asset operations, which is why the profile appeared under Energy.

The article does not establish the facility’s precise capacity, operating status, energy mix, or environmental effect. Renewable generation at a project does not, by itself, prove that every operation is continuously renewable or carbon-neutral, and the source’s scale language should not be treated as an independently verified benchmark.

Ben Pasternak — Consumer Technology

Pasternak, identified as 21, founded Simulate, the company behind Nuggs, a plant-based chicken-nugget product. This is consumer technology in the broader sense of product development, food formulation, manufacturing, and consumer distribution—not software or electronics.

Tech Times said Simulate had produced nine versions and generated $8 million in revenue in 2020. Those are historical claims attributed to the article; they do not establish present-day product lines or revenue.

Chazz Sims — Enterprise Technology

Sims was associated with Wise Systems in the Enterprise Technology category. The article described software that helps delivery operators plan routes and schedules using traffic and logistics information. That is an enterprise-software problem: the customer is a business coordinating vehicles and stops, rather than a consumer ordering a single delivery.

The brief description does not establish whether a particular feature used artificial intelligence or machine learning, nor does it provide customer counts, performance gains, or product-architecture details. It supports a description of route and schedule optimization, not stronger technical claims.

Alex Bouaziz — Finance Technology

Bouaziz was identified as a cofounder of Deel and placed in Finance Technology. Tech Times described Deel as software supporting remote hiring and the administration of wages or payroll. Cross-border payments and employment-related administration connect the product to financial technology, while its remote-work focus addresses an international staffing problem.

The article reported approximately 600 customers at the time. That figure is a late-2020 snapshot and says nothing by itself about Deel’s later customer base, geographic coverage, compliance scope, pricing, or whether a particular engagement is legally equivalent to an employer-of-record arrangement.

What links these profiles

  • Technology is being used broadly. The selection spans creator media, energy infrastructure, food products, logistics software, and employment-finance tools.
  • Several solve operational problems. Layer1’s profile connected electricity supply with mining hardware; Wise Systems addressed delivery planning; Deel addressed international hiring administration.
  • Not every technology business is a software company. MKBHD is a technology-media brand, while Simulate applies product and food innovation to a consumer category.
  • The profiles reflect the 2020 moment. Remote work, logistics, digital infrastructure, and new consumer products were prominent business themes when the class was announced.

What this five-person selection does—and does not—mean

  • It is a Tech Times editorial selection of five featured honorees, not proof that these were all of Forbes’ technology-related honorees.
  • The Forbes category labels are different and should not be collapsed into one official “Technology” category.
  • Subscriber, view, revenue, and customer figures are dated claims from around 2020.
  • Recognition identifies achievements or promise at the time; it does not guarantee later company performance, longevity, or financial success.

Source and date

The documented article is Tech Times’ “Forbes 30 Under 30 2021 List: Meet 5 of the Featured Honorees for Technology,” by Isaiah Alonzo, published December 1, 2020. Its five profiles are best read as a historical snapshot of how technology-related entrepreneurship and media were represented in the incoming Forbes 2021 class.
