What the 2025 Forbes list counted
Forbes included 3,028 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs in its 39th annual ranking. That was 247 more people than on the 2024 list. Forbes put their combined estimated net worth at $16.1 trillion, nearly $2 trillion above its 2024 total. These are Forbes’ estimates and year-over-year comparisons, not an independently verified measure of every person’s assets and liabilities.

When the wealth estimates were measured
The list was published on April 1, 2025, but its valuations used stock prices and exchange rates from March 7, 2025. Forbes’ article states: “We used stock prices and exchange rates from March 7, 2025.” The $16.1 trillion figure therefore describes a dated snapshot based on that cutoff; it is not a live total for September 2026 or any later date.
Where Forbes counted the most billionaires
Forbes reported 902 people on the list in the United States, 516 in China including Hong Kong, and 205 in India. These are country counts from the 2025 annual ranking.

How the annual list differs from Forbes’ real-time ranking
Forbes also maintains a separate real-time billionaire ranking. Its methodology page says public holdings update every five minutes during open markets, with a 15-minute delay, while fortunes significantly tied to private companies update daily. That ongoing schedule is distinct from the annual list’s March 7, 2025 valuation cutoff. The live-ranking methodology does not, by itself, establish every detail of how Forbes valued each private holding for the 2025 annual edition.
