FMCG Revenue May Rise in Q2 FY27, but Costs Could Pressure Margins

A Q2 FY27 preview points to revenue growth at Dabur, Marico and Godrej Consumer Products, while cost inflation could complicate the margin picture. The forecast is not a reported result or a verified sector-wide estimate.

Indian FMCG companies may post higher revenue in Q2 FY27, but sales growth alone will not show whether they are keeping more profit from each rupee earned. A Rediff Markets preview published October 6, 2026, reported expectations of double-digit growth at Dabur, Marico and Godrej Consumer Products; it did not provide a verifiable sector-wide margin estimate or underlying forecast methodology. These are expectations, not reported Q2 results.

How revenue can rise while margins come under pressure

Revenue is the money a company earns from sales. An operating margin measures operating profit as a share of revenue. If the cost of ingredients, packaging, freight or other operations rises faster than sales, revenue can increase even as the portion left as operating profit shrinks.

Companies can respond by raising prices, changing product mix, improving efficiency or absorbing some of the increase. The result depends on how much costs rise, whether customers accept higher prices, and how those changes affect sales volumes. Different businesses—and different product categories within one business—can therefore report different combinations of revenue, profit and margin growth.

What the Q2 FY27 preview does—and does not—establish

A Rediff Markets listing dated October 6, 2026, summarized expectations of double-digit Q2 growth at leading FMCG companies, including Dabur, Marico and Godrej Consumer Products, while flagging input-cost inflation. The listing did not expose the primary broker reports or enough detail to verify the estimate’s methodology, company sample or expected margin impact. It is a secondary preview, not confirmation of results or a verified sector-wide forecast. Rediff Markets

As of the available company reporting information, Q2 results were still upcoming: Godrej Consumer Products listed an investor conference for October 29, 2026, alongside Q2 materials, while Marico’s investor page listed a Q2 FY27 quarterly update without exposing its contents. Those pages establish reporting context, not released results or a particular forecast. Godrej Consumer Products investor page Marico investor page

Dabur’s Q1 shows how sales growth and cost management can coexist

Dabur’s Q1 FY27 update offers a company-specific example of the trade-off, not evidence that the Q2 sector forecast will come true. On July 29, 2026, the company reported consolidated revenue of ₹3,764 crore, up 10.6% year over year, and 9.5% growth in its India FMCG business. It also described persistent inflationary pressure and volatile commodity markets. Dabur India Limited investor information

CEO Mohit Malhotra said disciplined cost management, operational efficiencies and judicious price increases helped Dabur report healthy profit growth during the quarter. His statement describes Dabur’s Q1 experience; it is management’s account, not an independent sector-wide assessment or a Q2 outlook.

What to check when Q2 results are released

To assess whether higher sales translated into stronger profitability, compare like with like: the same quarter, the same company reporting basis, and clearly identified actual results versus estimates. For each company, look for:

  • Revenue growth: Check whether the figure is consolidated or limited to a geography or business segment.
  • Volume and pricing: Revenue may rise because of more units sold, higher prices, or a mix of both. These drivers have different implications for demand and future growth.
  • Operating profit or EBITDA and margin: Compare profit growth with revenue growth, and check the margin change. A margin can fall even when operating profit rises if revenue grows faster.
  • Cost and mix commentary: Read what management says about input costs, freight, efficiency measures, pricing and product mix, and distinguish those explanations from the reported figures.
  • Geography and business mix: Consolidated results can reflect businesses and regions with different growth and cost profiles; do not treat a segment figure as the whole company’s result.

Until companies publish their Q2 results, the available preview supports only an expectation of growth at the named companies and a concern about input costs. It does not establish the size of sector revenue growth or how much margins may change.
