Yes, according to Reuters. On October 8, 2026, Reuters reported that Flock Safety planned to let go of roughly 270 employees, about 18% of its workforce of about 1,500, with departures expected at the end of October. The report cites people with direct knowledge who asked not to be named, and Flock declined to comment. The cuts have not been announced by the company. They follow a voluntary separation program that Flock opened in September, which WIRED reported on. If you are an affected employee, the most useful steps are to get every term in writing before the decision deadline and to confirm how each element is calculated for your role. Specific questions to put to HR or your manager include:
- Whether the offer is a voluntary package, a involuntary severance, or a separate arrangement, and whether accepting it affects any other payment.
- The exact months of health coverage, when it starts, and whether it is company-paid or requires you to elect continuation coverage.
- The exercise deadline for vested and unvested stock options, and whether any tax treatment or cash-out rules apply. Confirm these with a tax professional, because the reporting does not address them.
- Your final separation date and whether you will be asked to stay one or more additional months.
Business and public context
Reuters and WIRED both describe Flock as an Atlanta-based surveillance technology company, founded in 2017, that sells cameras and software to law enforcement agencies and businesses. Flock’s internal announcement, as WIRED quoted it, described the separation program as providing “greater agency” and treating employees with “transparency, respect, and choice.” These are the company’s words describing its own program.
