What Fisker announced on April 29
CEO Henrik Fisker told employees that the company was making further reductions to its workforce. In an internal email reported by TechCrunch on April 29, 2024, he said the cuts were intended to help preserve cash while Fisker kept possible business options available.
The email described a purpose, not a completed result: it did not establish that the layoffs secured a buyer, financing or a turnaround. The report said the number of employees affected in this round was unclear.
How many employees did Fisker lay off in April 2024?
Fisker did not provide an exact count for the April 29 round in the report. Two other figures offer dated context but should not be mistaken for the number laid off or for a post-cut headcount:

- $54 million in cash and equivalents: the company’s reported balance as of April 16, 2024, also cited by TechCrunch. It is not a balance measured after the cuts.

The later events show that the April announcement was part of a continuing period of reductions and financial distress, but they do not supply an exact April layoff count.
What happened after the April cuts
Fisker’s financial difficulties continued. In a June 24, 2024 SEC filing, the company reported that Fisker Group Inc. commenced a Chapter 11 case on June 17, and Fisker Inc. and its other U.S. subsidiaries commenced cases on June 19. Those filings document later bankruptcy proceedings; they do not show that the April workforce reductions achieved the cash-preservation goal described to employees.
